Italy skiing

Anyone off to Italy this year?
Saw some great deals but wondering if I'd spend the whole week stressing about catching covid and getting stuck there...

Iamblossom · 29/12/2021 15:07

We are booked to go to Madesimo at half term. Bounced from this year.

Think Italy is currently in lock down till 15th Jan. Its going to be totally touch and go I think. And also touch and go whether the reason we don't go is covered by our insurance. So stressful.

To add injury to insult, ds1 just broke his wrist today, so assuming none of us get covid, we all have clear pcrs to travel, Italy lets us in, a storm doesnt cancel our flights (this happened in 2019) or any other fucking force majeure we may make it, but he may not be healed in time to actually ski.

I'm not holding my breath.

We're skiing in Italy at the moment. Super Green pass needed for all restaurants and indoor activities. Green pass and FFP2 masks needed for all closed lifts. Slopes are pretty quiet.

jrek · 29/12/2021 19:16

Oh Lamblossom I'm so sorry to hear that, please God he recovers quickly... Massistar that sounds fab- love a quiet slope!! EnjoySmile

Hi with regarding the super green pass - can you use your qr code on the nhs app instead or do you have to apply for it? We are looking to go W/c 22nd jan (I am assuming they extend the need for the super green pass) - 2 adults - 3 jabs each , 1 x 12 year old double vaccinated (this should enable her to get the super green pass but will be issued with a paper copy of her UK covid pass ) and a nine year old (exempt) - just trying to get my head round it all !
jrek · 29/12/2021 20:39

And what about a 12 year old with only
One jab? Would that mean he can't get in anywhere? Thanks

OP posts:
massistar · 29/12/2021 20:44

Yes the QR code from the NHS app gets scanned. The 12 year old with one jab won't be able to get the green pass so won't be able to go anywhere indoors. And you can't get it through testing any more. :-(

jrek · 29/12/2021 21:36

Ah ok thanks massistar😢

OP posts:
jb23newmum · 30/12/2021 10:18

Thanks for the info @massistar. We have applied for the paper copy for our 12 year old now she has had her 2nd vaccine (she can’t have the app due to her age ). Let’s hope they don’t close the borders to us !

massistar · 30/12/2021 15:48

There doesn't seem to be much talk of closing the borders from this end so fingers crossed! Cases are riding rapidly though so who knows?!

jrek · 30/12/2021 20:00

Just frustrating with having no second vaccine we're really not able to go...
Cases rising but here in Ireland patients in ICU has come down hugely which is very promising!

We’ve just come back from skiing in Italy and was really good, was a very last minute change from France but will definitely be looking at Italy for other trips in the future as an option instead of France.

I found it harder to work the rules out at first than France as no covid app like the French one etc, but it was all pretty easy, just use your NHS covid pass and the lifts, restaurants etc scan it. Where we were it was only the gondolas that needed the covid pass, the others didn’t and didn’t need it if sat outside at restaurants either.

We met other families with teenagers who made it work without their kids having super green pass as its green pass only for the lifts and then they didn’t go inside restaurants other than the one part of their hotel which is allowed

If you go definitely take a printed copy of your NHS covid pass as well as on your phone!!! We needed a back up several times!

NotDonna · 01/01/2022 09:28

Also just returned from Italy skiing with teens after a French cancellation. The slopes were wonderfully quiet. I echo everything Hophop26 has said.
@jb23newmum you need to speak with your GP surgery as there’ll be a ‘tech’ person there who can link your DCs nhs records to your nhs app. You then just show everyone your COVID pass & your DCs vaccination status on the app - much easier when getting gondolas etc. You have to fill in forms, go down with both passports, birth certificate (proof of parent). It took our tech guy a couple of days - quicker because I said I just needed it for vaccines rather than full records. It worked perfectly but we did also take print outs of everything!

If you are in Ireland why can’t your 12 year old have a second vaccine?
NotDonna · 01/01/2022 09:48

Actually @jb23newmum you can get the proper barcode letter…
www.gov.uk/government/news/nhs-covid-pass-for-12-15-year-olds-for-international-travel
I’m now thinking that’s what you’ve done anyway abd I’d misunderstood.

NotDonna · 01/01/2022 09:53

@ChimneyPot there’s a 3 month (12 week) gap between 1st & 2nd doses. I don’t know about Ireland but most kids in England weren’t offered 1st dose until end October, some only very recently. The roll out has been dreadful. It’s been a real struggle to get it. Also lots of delays if the child gets COVID and a lot did/have.

Yes rang 119 and they should be sending it out . I am crossing everything that no one tests positive before we get to go (we all had it back in jan 2021 but we think that was the delta variant )
Africa2go · 02/01/2022 00:22

Considering switching from France to Italy at half term but have a 12 yr old with only 1 dose and it will only be 10 weeks since 1st dose by half term, meaning she won't get 2nd dose before half term and so won't get the Super Green Pass. Is that it - i.e. simply not possible to use lifts? Have read about testing every 48 hours? Does that give you the pass? I've spent hours googling this today and can't seem to find an answer.

@jrek post suggested she was in Ireland where the gap between first and second jabs is 3 weeks and 12-15 year olds have been offered 2 jabs since last summer.

jrek · 02/01/2022 07:06

Yes just got first vaccine the other day but I thought he'd have to wait longer between the two! Might be able to squeeze something in later in the season if only have to wait three weeks 🤞🤞

You can’t get it by testing anymore.

www.thelocal.it/20211230/italy-announces-new-covid-quarantine-and-green-pass-rules-as-cases-surge/

On Wednesday night, the government also added to the growing list of venues where the ‘super’ or reinforced green pass will be required from January 10th, now including outdoor restaurants, hotels, and ski lifts as well as all forms of public transport.

Italy’s reinforced green pass. introduced in early December, can only be obtained via vaccination or recovery, and not with a negative test result

If you or the child had covid recently and you did an official PCR test you count as recovered which counts for the Super green pass.

Also you don’t need a PCR to enter Italy. You need:
-either a PCR no older than 48 hours OR
-a LTF no older than 24 hours.

LTF will be significantly cheaper, especially as children aged 6 and over will also have to do it.

If you are not vaccinated you have to quarantine on arrival. 10 days for travellers from Britain.

Signoramarella · 02/01/2022 07:48

We are booked also to Italy at halfterm. Depends what happens between now and then. The virus us spreading over there, lombardy will possibly go to zona rossa, its now zona gialla. ( yellow). Skiing will be day trips for us in piano di bobbio. Then if it all goes tits up, at least there's plenty of outdoor activities, more so than uk. What's important if you to to Italy, is to book your slot at the pharmacy for the tampone covid test for your return to UK. When we went Oct halfterm 2021, there were no slots, all the antivaxxers had block booked. You'll need this to board flight back to UK.

AdriannaP · 02/01/2022 10:08

@Signoramarella you can return with a LFT. So you can buy them in the UK, take them to Italy, take the test the day before departure and email to the company who will send you a certificate in return. Takes 6 hours max (depending on company) so do it the day before the flight.

AdriannaP · 02/01/2022 10:10

Obviously this only applies if you are fully vaccinated. www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

jb23newmum · 02/01/2022 15:56

@Africa2go looking at the rules I don’t think you can go to Italy - what about Austria ? They do a holiday ninja pass for 12-15 year olds - but means testing 3 x times out there
