Anyone off to Italy this year?
Saw some great deals but wondering if I'd spend the whole week stressing about catching covid and getting stuck there...

My to do list:

Download NHS app and prove identity, to have super green pass for me and DH
Get DS2's jab tomorrow, request certification of his vax status from NHS
Buy 6 antigen tests, 3 to take 24 hours before arriving in Italy, 3 to within 2 days of arriving back
Fill in 3 passenger locator forms
Buy 3 FPT2 masks for use on gondolas
Check in online, pack, book equipment and lift passes, not get covid, pass antigen tests, not miss flight, not forget passports, get Euros?

If you haven't got an in date EHIC, you also need to get GHICs.

What have I missed?

Got this from my travel company today:

As you’ve probably realised theres a lot of grey areas around covid and vaccine status for children, particularly the 12-15 year olds, we’re constantly trying to find out the latest and its frustratingly hard.
We have heard that it's possible to get your children added to your NHS profile on the NHS app so therefore you should be able to show their vaccine status that way.
Theres a link below with a little bit of guidance -

www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/nhs-app-help-and-support/linked-profiles-in-the-nhs-app/

We’ve had teenagers that have already been skiing this winter but that was before the change to ’super green’ pass in Italy.

They were able to get a letter by calling 119 but thats supposed to be accessible in the app now, here’s another link with some more information -

www.gov.uk/government/news/nhs-covid-pass-for-12-15-year-olds-for-international-travel

I have dd linked to my nhs app (she also has own access). She is double jabbed as of 2 days ago.

I can see her vaccinations listed along with all her others in her health record. As linked there is no place to look for a Covid pass.

Looking at her app again vaccine’s listed under health information. There is a Covid pass option but selecting it gives “you must be over 16” message.

@Iamblossom you’ll want spare masks - the ffp2 ones we have seem to break their straps quite easily and I can only imagine how clumsy we will all be with gloves/goggles/helmets in the way, I’m thinking emergency safety pins in pocket just in case

massistar · 14/01/2022 12:42

I second the extra masks. They were a complete faff with helmets and goggles!

Iamblossom · 14/01/2022 14:45

Just spoke to my GP reception and to get DS2's vax status visible via my app he needs to sign a letter giving permission for me to access it, and then come in with me to the surgery showing id. Jeepers, what a total faff.

NotDonna · 14/01/2022 15:22

@Iamblossom that is a faff! Is your DS over 14? There’s all the Gillick competency stuff that parents need permission from young person to access health info. My youngest is 12 and all the surgery required was both our passports, her birth certificate stating I am parent and their form. She didn’t need to sign nor be present but that’s probably because she’s not ‘gillick competent’. It seems to kick in around age 14/15.

NotDonna · 14/01/2022 15:35

My holiday check used to be ‘passports, tickets, money’ anything else I could get there. Now? I have a very thick file of print outs and various screens saved on my phone 🤣🤣🙄

Yep 15

Wistful977 · 14/01/2022 20:20

Lamblossom - I did this for my 14 year old DS and I still can't see his vaccinations in the app - very frustrating!

NormaSnickers · 15/01/2022 16:10

Just hopping on to say to @Iamblossom it’s definitely worth buying more than three FFP2 masks. We’re in Italy at the moment and had to wear them in the airport, they’re mandatory there so we weren’t allowed off the plane without one and then had to wear it all the way through the airport and on the transfer bus. Expect it’ll be the same when we leave tomorrow.
I bought a box of 20 individually wrapped disposable ones for around £8, well worth it in my opinion as we haven’t had to worry about having a fresh one each time for the gondola when we’ve got a bit sweaty! Most people are wearing FFP2 masks in the dining room in our hotel too, they seem to be very common sights over here.
We’ve had a great week skiing and all the pre-travel stress and worry has been long forgotten - I hope it’s the same for you!

Iamblossom · 15/01/2022 18:38

Amazing thankyou so much

RiseAgain · 15/01/2022 18:43

Amazingly useful thread, thank you!
Has anyone has experience with 'proof of recovery' letters. My 12YO DS had covid in October. Seems like we can get a letter confirming this, but there won't be a QR code - are we going to struggle or are people used to non-QR proofs?
So stressed out about all of this!!!

Iamblossom · 15/01/2022 19:06

@RiseAgain I don't know the answer to this I'm afraid, my sister is in the same boat with my niece who can't have her second jab due to having covid at Xmas, if she finds out I will post on here.

So relieved to have got ds2's second jab in his arm today.

Nomorerainplease · 15/01/2022 22:55

In exactly the same position @RiseAgain and similarly v stressed!

Iamblossom · 16/01/2022 15:41

More questions... The antigen test you order and take and send off the results of before departure.. Are they the same tests you take with you to do before returning? And at what point do you take the return test?

NormaSnickers · 16/01/2022 18:25

@Iamblossom you no longer have to do a test prior to returning to UK, you have to do an antigen test by the end of day 2 when you come back. We arrived home this afternoon so are planning to do our tests tomorrow evening. But yes, they are the same tests, and you need the code from the test ( or from the order if they haven’t arrived before you leave for hols) to complete your Passenger Locator form for flying home.

Iamblossom · 16/01/2022 19:19

Thankyou so so much incredibly helpful xxx

ReviewingTheSituation · 16/01/2022 19:33

So much useful info on this thread.

I can't see Italy relaxing anything before we go (5th Feb), so I'm going to order my LFTs for departure. But there's talk that 2 day tests might be scrapped 'in Feb'... If I understand correctly, we need to have a booking number on the PLF to come back into the UK, but we could hedge our bets and order out there if no changes come in before we're due to come back. Or is that taking too much of a chance and I should just book them now. What do you think...?

RiseAgain · 16/01/2022 19:42

You can order them just before you return - you get the order number immediately and you can complete the passenger form and the tests will arrive in 1-2 days in time for day 2 test

jrek · 22/01/2022 10:18

I'm in Ireland and have my 12 year old with his first vaccine. Any idea if I can just bring him to a test centre myself to get the second one without an appointment? Also do you need the QR code for a 12 year old or would the written card do? Thanks

@Wistful977 I can now see DS2's vaccine status in my app called Patient Access, which the GP surgery linked to my NHS app for me.
Wistful977 · 25/01/2022 12:21

That's good to know! Thank you I will ask them about this

jrek · 29/01/2022 18:17

Seems like no pcr needed to get into Italy from next week🥳🥳👏

OP posts:
ReviewingTheSituation · 29/01/2022 23:52

You don't need a PCR to get in now - just a LFT...

jrek · 30/01/2022 10:09

I think from 1st Feb you don't need anything??
