Anyone skiing for new year.....?

We are meant to be flying to Austria for new year but not sure if we will go now. Both triple vaccinated and DH just recovered from covid so he probably has the highest immunity possible but just feeling a bit scared of all the headlines. DC are both under 12 so don't need to test to return. Is anyone else going for new year.....? And will you go do you think?

We have booked to Switzerland after cancelled france leaving Monday. We are still going to go.....

Harrysdoneit · 24/12/2021 07:04

Good luck! Decided last night we are going to go. All travel tests now booked and getting excited now. Smile

We've cancelled but I wish we hadn't now.

abricotine · 24/12/2021 11:12

If he has just recovered are you confident he will be able to get a negative result from a PCR test? Assuming you are, good luck to you for going. I genuinely think we have to grab our opportunities when we can as who knows what’s round the corner!

turkeyboots · 24/12/2021 12:58

We hopefully are. But our hotel in France was closed yesterday amd travel agent is scrabbling to get us in somewhere else. I had my pcr test done yesterday and will be cross if had my brain prodded for no reason.

Doingthingsdifferently · 24/12/2021 14:22

Yes we are if all goes to plan. Heading to Switzerland on boxing day - have to get through an antigen tomorrow and hope the flight takes off…

thillanddale42 · 24/12/2021 20:16

Flight leaving is the bit I'm most stressing about as presumably will be some
Staff off with covid.....

turkeyboots · 25/12/2021 13:47

My holiday was cancelled. Club Med closed the resort and refused to book us elsewhere. Xmas Angry

Harrysdoneit · 26/12/2021 14:00

That's a shame @turkeyboots
Think if he doesnt get a negative PCR test then we'd claim on insurance. I'd love to get away from all this dreary grey weather to some snowy mountains so keeping fingers crossed @abricotine
Good luck @Doingthingsdifferently I hope you've taken off!

I've got Covid now so hopefully I can book for January. Where can I still go??

LoobyLou2709 · 26/12/2021 20:18

We are here in Austria now and loving it! Was so unsure whether to come but so glad we did! We flew on 24th, so day before the changes but both our dc are under 12 so didn't make a lot of difference to us in the end (just the extra PCR before leaving we didn't have to do!) seems really quiet here, and safe, easy through the airport, plane was half full ( it was Xmas Eve tho) and just have to show vaccine certificate when buying ski passes and restaurants. Saying all this but not going home just yet!.. I may think differently by Friday! Have a lovely time if you do decide to go x

thillanddale42 · 27/12/2021 11:13

Just arrived in Zurich - so easy once all testing is in place. Can't actually believe we are heading for those snowy mountains....

Harrysdoneit · 27/12/2021 13:22

Good to hear @LoobyLou2709 @thillanddale42
I hope we get there now!

Hopefully, just need to get the negative test.....

ArialAnna · 27/12/2021 22:35

We've booked go to Austria this weekend, after we had to cancel France. Fingers crossed everything goes to plan! Obviously there are a lot of things that could potentially go wrong on paper (+ve PCR, flight cancellations, rule changes, etc) but I say nothing ventured, nothing gained! If we get to ski it'll all be worth it.

Harrysdoneit · 28/12/2021 08:38

@ArialAnna good luck! Hope you get there x

I'm in Austria. Slopes are quieter than usual for this time of year and when the current guests go home at the weekend, I expect that the resort will get even quieter. All NYE celebrations are cancelled with a 22.00 curfew for restaurants until further notice.

Everyone wears masks where required. People generally ride the quieter lifts in family groups rather than filling the cabins or chairs (except first thing in the morning rush hour). Covid passes are checked when you buy the lift pass and at every restaurant, hotel and cafe. Apres ski is closed, keeping the worst of the drunken revellers away.

massistar · 28/12/2021 16:53

We're in Italy at the moment. Slopes are pretty quiet and the snow is good. Masks on all the lifts and we've eaten outdoors mainly. It feels very safe and it's so fab to be back on the slopes!

piney07 · 31/12/2021 10:58

All going well (crossing all fingers and toes) we will be off to Switzerland on 1st Jan! We are taking work laptops and insurance will cover if we catch covid there and need to isolate - so will just work from Switzerland if our return to UK test is positive.

Harrysdoneit · 01/01/2022 16:16

Covid tests done.....let's hope they come back negative and we can fly on Monday!

Will keep my fingers crossed for you @Harrysdoneit !

We made it over to Austria today! We are staying in a city hotel tonight then heading to the ski resort tomorrow. It was a really quiet flight (I overheard the steward say there was only 50 of us in total) and immigration was very quick (under 10 mins).

Harrysdoneit · 01/01/2022 20:33

Thanks @ArialAnna thays good to hear. Have a fab holiday
