Anyone else following Switzerland rules very closely?

We have booked a ski trip in early jan in Switzerland - with France then Germany banning UK tourists, I’m really really hoping that Switzerland goes their own way!

The news from the Swiss health minister www.reuters.com/world/europe/british-tourists-face-same-swiss-pandemic-rules-others-minister-2021-12-17/ seems to suggest they plan to stay calm, but who knows?

It’s the not knowing that’s awful, we have cancelled all Xmas plans to reduce covid risk, it will be very frustrating if we make those sacrifices and then can’t get to Switzerland. Sad

Anyone else in the same boat? Or in Switzerland and has more information about the way things might go? It’s hard to follow the news as only one English website that updates quite slowly.

Hi piney, I follow it closely as have a couple of trips via Geneva plus half term in Switzerland. I’d recommend following the Swiss threads on snowheads: snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=157227&start=440 is one. There are many super helpful Swiss residents and generally I hear the news there long before any other media! I do come on here and update info where it looks out of date but snowheads is excellent for keeping abreast of it all as it changes daily

@abricotine hey thanks so much for that! X

We have just booked a trip for 27th Dec and are also following closely but also took out insurance before sorting. Also made easier that our France trip was cancelled on THursday so some things are in place already…. Now antigen rather than pcr entry from this Monday made the testing slightly easier but literally am on the edge of my seat !

I'm not following Switzerland closely but I think and actually hope that it will go the same way. I'm in Germany the UK is declared a varus variant risk. Allowing brits into Switzerland currently is not a clever idea. I realise this is a bit hard and brash and if course it is irritating for everyone who wants to go skiing, I feel for them all. Yes the Swiss government make their own choices but I predict learning from last year's experience might sway the matters here.

Fingers crossed for you.

@thillanddale42 crossing fingers and toes for us!! Ours is fine cancellation wise - I just really want to go! And will be sad to have missed out on festive celebrations here in UK for nothing, if there is a last minute ban. Surely it’s so close now though? I guess the next few days will indicate their stance 🤞🏻

Hi I think that entry will be pcr required by 27th again (strange that it was changed)

piney07 · 19/12/2021 10:52

@NoKnit that’s fine by me - as long as we are allowed in! Grin

I actually booked a pcr on 24th and lat flow on 26th just in case as appointments are few and far between and it would be a bummer if that was what was between us going or not....... everything is crossed !!!!!!

Hi @piney07 I think you should be OK. I live in Switzerland, and I dont see the government closing the ski resorts - the cantons need to approve restrictions and they will not approve that if at all possible.
They might do as last year - can only eat in hotel you stay at, no indoor dining on the mountain etc. Unless things deteriorate suddenly, but that is not the case right now (cases today are 12% down on this day last week, and been dropping over the past week - though that could be due to less testing, hard to know).

Obviously things can change very suddenly - make sure you have good insurance, there is lots available to cover things like you needing to cancel due to testing positive or being contacted ny test and trace.

@FaoinDrualus thanks so much for the insider scope. I hope you are right - and I hope we manage to not get Covid ourselves!
