Thoughts on booking for Christmas 2021?

We’ve been hoping to go away with the in-laws over Christmas again for the last 3 years but health problems and now covid has meant that it’s not happened.

Parents in law aren’t getting any younger and are really keen to book now for Christmas 2021. I’m very much in two minds about parting with any cash just yet.

What are your thought?

We've already booked. We booked it back in the summer. So far we've just booked our accommodation, which is done through Vrbo (similar to Airbnb) and it's refundable until the week before. The flights should go live in the next ten days (we've been keeping an eye on the BA app) and we plan to book them the day they go live. As it's with BA, we'll just take a credit note if we can't go. Passes/lessons/hire won't need to be done until the summer at the earliest, so we should have a much better idea of how things look by then.

We're hoping that as it's a year away, things will look very different by then.

We're thinking about it. I found Air BnB apartments which are fully refundable until 7 days before the holiday. Skyscanner have flights which can be amended until 14 days before, but my worry is that if you buy eg Easyjet flights to Geneva on New Year's Eve costing approx £300pp, then you would lose lots of £ if you end up amending to fly somewhere cheaper

I've just booked for Xmas 21. Absolutely no rationale to it other than I need something to look forward to!!! Paid a 200 quid deposit. Balance due in Sept 21. With Crystal. They have a Covid Holiday promise advertised this winter 20/21 and I hope the same will apply next year too.

Hoping that I will not be proved completely bonkers.

We booked the flights a month ago, literally the minute they went live. We're glad we did as we looked at them a week later and they'd gone up by £100. We'll take a credit note if we need to cancel.

The ski school we book with have a note on their website saying that lessons and hire are refundable up to the day before, so even if it goes to pot at the last minute, we don't stand to lose anything.

We were skiing this time last year. My phone shows me photos from 'on this day' so is rubbing it in this week.

Where have you all booked?

We’ve just booked for Feb half term 2022. We’ve booked an apartment in Montgenevre on Booking.com which has free cancellation and now patiently waiting for BA to release their flights! Passes and ski school we’ll book later on. Supposed to go on our already delayed honeymoon to the Maldives in April but that’s looking like it won’t be happening. Desperately need something to look forward to.
