We currently have Xmas booked in Obergurgl - I have everything crossed -Austria will be removed from the quarantine list. If not and Italy remains open we will be going there. So. After advice on snow sure places for beginners (we have done two ski holidays before ) ? Looked at Passo Tonale through crystal and they don’t fly out till 27th - thanks

Bardonecchia ! We went there last Xmas. Depends what you like. Very quiet resort but lovely restaurants. Authentic Italy . Snow canons mean it’s snow sure and very good slopes for beginners . Little bit busy on lower lifts but nothing major. Plus, it’s very very cheap! Mountain lunches for three courses about 10 quid. Coffee decent and cheap. Again, depends what you want, but not many English go there so you feel you’re away . Plus it’s near souze doux , 20 min drive ish

Thanks who did you book through - happy to go where there aren’t many brits !

We booked everything ourselves separately . We drove there, had stops along the way in France. Was actually a lovely drive and very simple. We booked a little Italian hotel, basic, clean , good brekkie. Hotel serenella. 10 mins walk to pistes but there’s a massive car park at the pistes so I just got up and took the car and gear down to bag a space and then walked 10 mins back to hotel for brekkie. Nice mornings actually ! Loved it there. Would defiantly go back

Ski hire was with ski sport dain. Booked directly online. Hotel was called Rosa serenalla actually. Lift passes you buy when you’re there. And they are so cheap compared to other resorts . Hotels near campo Smith is where to look for near the pistes.

Also booked for Austria. Had an email changing our flights this week (booked flights & accommodation separately) which means we'll lose 2 half days Angry so really don't know what to do.

We're done 2 x Christmas hols in Cervinia - really lovely cruisey blues for beginners and actually quite alot of the reds are not too difficult - my 6yr old (had learnt in a snow dome before we went) was hurtling down them about 4 days in. You can also go over to Zermat which is gorgeous too.

We've been to Canazei a couple of times. Hotel in Alba di Canazei which sits between 2 big gondolas giving access to 2 separate ski areas. Would also recommend Corvara.

massistar · 05/10/2020 14:35

Sorry. Should've said.. not snow sure but the snow making is excellent. From Corvara you can get to Marmolada which is the glacier so probably main snow sure run in the Dolomites. It's my favourite run in the world !

Thanks for the recommendations - just looking though now - has anyone done Drei zinnen ?

Hi we have booked flights go Geneva for Christmas 21 and are looking at ski resorts good for children with great Christmas atmosphere and not too cold

SkiYetiMagic · 03/01/2021 12:15

I would recommend Bardonecchia too for good value and very Italian I have a real soft spot for this place. It's good for beginners with a great ski school and suitable runs to build confidence. Some awesome restaurants and friendly locals. It has lots of chairlifts too which is probably a good choice right now. Its not super high though but i think they have snowmaking.

SkiYetiMagic · 03/01/2021 12:17

@jb23newmum are you looking at staying in Cortina for Drei Zinnen?

Rodent01 · 03/01/2021 12:27

@Connor2005 Morzine / Les Gets. Nice villages and low, so would help with your request for not too cold.... although normally at Christmas people are desperate due cold to ensure snow.

Megeve (pretty)
Flaine (hideously ugly)
Samoens (middling)
Chamonix (pretty but not as easy to ski)
Are all close to Geneva as well.
