Late Easter deals

Our Easter Italian skiing trip has just been cancelled so we are going to be on the look out for a last minute (and cheap!) trip elsewhere for a family of 2 adults and 2 children.

We've skied mainly in France and Switzerland but open to other destinations and recommendations for family friendly ski companies gratefully received.

I think it would be sensible to stay home.

massistar · 10/03/2020 10:51

Honestly? I don't think I'd be booking anywhere else at the moment. Was a bit blase a couple of weeks ago but I wouldn't be running the risk now.

Agree, the Austrian Tyrol resorts are starting to close down already and suspect others will follow. At the moment Switzerland is still open but some end of season activities are being cancelled.

I just thought to check the resort page for our booked Norway trip and the resort is closed. So at least we can rebook for next year, I imagine (we booked flights separately but they weren't that much).

Anyone heard anything re French resorts?
I know the French school hols are due to start soon so surely that will be a melting pot for further transmissions!

drspouse · 13/03/2020 08:48

French schools are shut so I don't imagine ski schools will be open either.

SkiYetiMagic · 13/03/2020 13:43

HI. I think the French resorts will probably end up closing soon too but at the the moment I beleive there are still some main ones open in Three Valleys.
They have cancelled all the music festivals out there and the cases are going up each day so i think it would be quite risky . Its so sad :-(

Joneseygirl77 · 13/03/2020 16:30

Apparently the French resorts met this afternoon and have decided to stay open- every other ski country has shut down!

PickleSarnie · 13/03/2020 17:39

Les Arcs update. Similar ones from all the other French resorts:

To be fair, you’re out in the open, wearing gloves, goggles and sometimes a mask. It’s probably not the most high risk activities. Other than when in a gondola I’m generally never in close proximity to anyone other than my kids.

LIZS · 13/03/2020 18:22

Some Swiss resorts are closing, some are not.

myorangecrush · 13/03/2020 18:32

The fact is people all over Europe fly into ski resorts on planes and mix in hotels and share chairlifts/gondolas and mountain restaurants and bathrooms. There is no point closing schools if half of Europe heads to the mountains and mingles there. I am very sad but can see why they have taken these decisions.

Joneseygirl77 · 14/03/2020 19:18

France is now on level 3 lockdown so looks like the slopes will be closing too now.

Notwiththeseknees · 15/03/2020 00:24

Just to confirm that all the lift companies announced earlier they were to close at midnight (Saturday). Chamonix has been quieter the last week - mainly as all the school holidays were over and the Italian skiers were not allowed to travel here.

Feel so sorry for who works here.
