Has anyone gone to Italy since the restrictions have been in place?

Supposed to be flying on Saturday to Verona, then driving up to the dolomites. Not within the restricted regions but still in an awful quandary about whether we should call the whole thing off.

Has anyone gone or is planning on still going, would welcome other people’s thoughts on whether you’d go ahead?

We’re a family of four and school has already issued their statement saying that they are following official advice - I.e no need to self-isolate on return unless experiencing symptoms.

Not been recently but was in the Dolomites at Christmas and have family in the Veneto region. All the hotels etc are posting on FB that there are no outbreaks there but I understand it's a worry.

If it was me I'd still be going.

I feel really sorry for you having to make this difficult decision and the hotels in northern Italy losing business by people having to change their travel plans. However for the next week or two it is not yet known if CV is contained in Italy so I would not go ahead with a holiday in northern Italy at the present time. I don't think you would feel that relaxed on holiday or in the two weeks after your return. I would try and change the flight to a ski region in a different country and book alternative accommodation if you can cancel hotel. If you can't cancel hotel would they let you postpone till next year? If you do want to go ahead I would speak to the Head of your school. whilst they are following fco guidelines for those who have just returned from Italy they might worry about people still choosing to go to Italy after the large escalation of cases.

I'm afraid I wouldn't go. We got back from a totally unaffected area but I was still paranoid when ds said he felt full of a cold.

NCTDN · 28/02/2020 10:42

This is on the sky news website :

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is advising against travel to China, South Korea, Iran and northern Italy where the epidemic is most severe.

AndyMurraysCat · 28/02/2020 11:43

I’m flying into Turin tomorrow to ski in Montgenevre. Obviously if Foreign Office advises against it, then I won’t. But as it stands we will be going.

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 28/02/2020 15:38

Update - we’re going!! Thanks for the comments and enjoy your hols those who are going away!!

I'm prob a bit late on this one but just got back staying close to Marmolada and no sign of Corona up in the Dolomites as far as i could see. I hope you have fun. Lots of fresh snow :-)

AndyMurraysCat · 05/03/2020 17:54

Snow is INCREDIBLE here ❄️ 🧡❄️🧡❄️

massistar · 05/03/2020 18:15

Very jealous Andy ! Was a bit pants at half term!

SkiYetiMagic · 06/03/2020 09:14

Yes!!!! @AndyMurraysCat :-)

AndyMurraysCat · 08/03/2020 12:28

Best snow I think I’ve had in Europe. So good we had a powder lesson mid-week 😝

TheWayOfTheWorld · 09/03/2020 08:44

All closed now for the rest of the season, even resorts outside of the quarantine zone Sad

SkiYetiMagic · 09/03/2020 09:40

It's not looking great for Italy ski resorts now :-( Aosta valley resorts are closed (Pila, Champoluc, Courmayeur). The Dolomites webcams are showing the runs earily deserted and I think they are waiting for an announcement but I can't imagine the majority will be open. The Lombardy areas are not open. Sestriere is looking empty too so I imagine the whole Via Lattea area is the same.

massistar · 10/03/2020 10:50

All ski resorts in Italy now shut down. I really feel for them.. last month of the season wiped out.

ChateauMargaux · 10/03/2020 10:57

@Whoahtherecrazyhorse and @AndymurraysCat ... I guess you have to self isolate now. What a way to end your ski holiday.

WhoahThereCrazyHorse · 10/03/2020 11:00

@ChateuxMargaux we got back a couple of days before the advice changed. So we don’t have to thank goodness!! Although we are being suitably cautious 😊

And slopes were quiet when we were there, snow was 👌🏻

Feel for everyone now though 😔

We got back a couple of days before Foreign Office advised to self-isolate. However, we are doing it anyway. Don’t want to put people at risk unnecessarily.

ChateauMargaux · 11/03/2020 21:29

@AndyMurraysCat I would be grateful that you had taken that decision and if I were at risk of coming into contact with you.

AndyMurraysCat · 12/03/2020 12:09

Aw thanks, it’s just the sensible thing to do 🙂
