Hahaha
Where are you off to?

TeetotalKoala · 06/02/2020 06:39

Rauris in Austria. Although I've just looked at the weather forecast and am slightly worried now! The winds are non existent in the valley at 950m so I'm hoping that as novices, we won't be too high up, and that the winds will be at the top. Or am I deluding myself?

Do the lifts operate in high wind? 950m slopes may well be patchy even after this week's snowfall.

massistar · 06/02/2020 19:59

How exciting!!

9 days and counting till we go to Andorra! ⛷ 🏂

NCTDN · 06/02/2020 22:53

@massistar where are you staying? 9 days here too.

TailEndCharlie · 07/02/2020 09:07

6 days and counting here... and then Whistler here we come! I have my first ever skiing lesson in a snowdome on Monday. Terrified.

massistar · 07/02/2020 11:04

We're in Pas de la Casa. Not been to Andorra before so really looking forward!

massistar · 07/02/2020 11:05

Oh wow @TailEndCharlie ! What a way to start!

pollyputthepastaon · 07/02/2020 11:06

@tailendcharlie you're starting with Whistler!! What an entrance to skiing!! :D

TailEndCharlie · 07/02/2020 11:20

Possibly a bit of overkill but I was worried if I was too hectic in Europe in Feb half term that I would hate it and not want to sink the big bucks again on an annual ski trip.... hoping this way I fall in love with it all and it becomes a family thing.

TeetotalKoala · 09/02/2020 20:50

Well we're here and have had our first day on the slopes. And we are all completely in love with it and have found our new favourite activity. DH is already talking about next year!

Brilliant @TeetotalKoala.. That's it now you've got the bug!

LIZS · 10/02/2020 14:41

Are the lifts open today, it seems Storm Sabine has closed many.

fluffiphlox · 10/02/2020 14:45

-6 in Whistler. Though it’s not quite 7am. I must say it’s brave to come here as a beginner with jet lag. Good on you. Have a great time.

TeetotalKoala · 10/02/2020 15:22

9/10 lifts open today. It was a bit breezy on the nursery slopes so I bet it was windy further up. Potentially going up tomorrow, depending on the weather.

How did your lesson go today @TailEndCharlie?

pollyputthepastaon · 11/02/2020 10:09

@TailEndCharlie sorry to hijack but I’d love to hear how you find whistler only for a week (I’ve always wondered if it’s too far to go just for half term) with jet lag etc. Hoping you love it! Worth looking at the first week of Easter hols in somewhere high like val thorens next year. Will be much quieter than half term week. X

@TeetotalKoala so happy you are loving it!! We have the ski bug too - thankfully all 3 children are keen and it’s truly the BEST family holiday for an active family.

TailEndCharlie · 11/02/2020 12:15

@TeetotalKoala Ooooh snowdome lesson was fun! Although the lifts weren't working so it was perhaps the most exhausting hour of my life! Nice to know I am not totally crap as a newbie and that my trousers stay up etc... so now panic packing and hoping it all goes well.

@pollyputthepastaon we are going a little early for half term and returning a little later so will be going for 11 days. The kids are currently at an international school for a year so they are a bit more flexible about flights etc. If it was a straight week I think we would have stuck to East Coast Canada to minimise the jetlag a bit. We shall see, if it is fab we may be tempted to do Canada and USA again but not for a couple of years as this is turning into a damn expensive holiday!

LoonyLunaLoo · 11/02/2020 21:59

@pollyputthepastaon we’re going to Whistler in the Easter holidays. We fly on the first Wednesday so will have a chilled out day on Monday, travel to Manchester airport Tue afternoon and stay in the Radisson Blu, which is attached to the airport, then fly Wed morning. On the way back, we land on the following Thurs morning so have Fri and the weekend to recover before back to school/ work 😊

pollyputthepastaon · 12/02/2020 07:45

@LoonyLunaloo wow 2 weeks how fabulous. I didn’t realise you could ski whistler so late. Can you ski in/out there? That’s a big requirement for me with children!

LoonyLunaLoo · 12/02/2020 12:38

@pollyputthepastaon apparently so, the hotel we’re staying in is right by the gondola 😍. We’ve only been at Christmas time before but I’ll report back. We’re also coincidentally going to be there for the World Skiing and Snowboarding Festival which sounds like its going to be literally epic! I’m tooooo excited!
