For a family of five to ski in February half term? Just 3/4 days would do.
I have never done it before but DC’s have had some lessons and DH has been once as a teenager.
Would love to go to Italy but not if it’s going to be much more expensive!
I have been reading lots if the threads in this section and there is some great advice so thank you!

OP i think a family of 5 is MUCH harder to do cheaply than a family of 4. We (also a 5) have never stayed in a hotel, ski resorts simply dont cater for large families so you're looking at 2 (or 3!) rooms which makes it prohibitively expensive. You need to find resorts with apartments /AirBNBs - actually we've found that Italy caters for that much better than say Austria.

Also consider Christmas - its a longer holiday so you dont have to do the same week as everyone else and its not as busy as half term (New Year week is busier than Xmas week). If you go high you can still be confident in snow conditions.

We've done 5 or 6 days at Christmas for about £4/4.5k for the 5 of us - flights, car hire to resort, skis / lift pass etc, decent apartment & eating out every night (refuse to cook, its my holiday too!) with a sandwich on the mountain at lunch time. We havent done ski school as we want to be together on Christmas Eve / Christmas Day so the children usually have 3 x 3hr private lessons over the week.
