Total first world problem here Blush

Me, DH, 2 kids (under 8 but both ski well) will prob go skiing over the Xmas week. Well prob do 4-5 days skiing then 1-2 dats doing other stuff like cinema, swimming pool, ice skating etc. We live in mainland Europe now so will drive. We have a choice between:

  1. Self catering just outside Courchevel (10 mins from Le Praz). Would mean driving to and from the slopes each day. Limited facilities for cooking, would need to eat out each night. Like the chance to visit a great area and never been before.
  1. Self catering near Les Arcs. Again 10-15 min drive each morning. Same facilities for cooking/eating. Been before donkeys years ago.
  1. Morzine, catered chalet (shared with others we don’t know). Driver to/from slopes each day. Stayed at this place before. Quickest to get to.

Cost-wise they would prob work out similar.

Where would you go??

Snow looks great so far everywhere so not sure if altitude needs to factor in given current conditions.

I'd go for 3 - with young DCs I couldn't be bothered with the faff of having to drive every morning and find a parking space and then having to cook in the evening. Catered chalet with lifts sounds perfect.

I'd go 3 but then I always go catered as can't be arsed either cooking or going out every night.

Morzine is lovely for kids. Mine loved the Indian Village over in Les Gets.

I think this is what we’re leaning towards!

Will check out the Indian village!

An other vote for Option 3. There are great deals out there for Xmas. Unfortunately, I’m looking for new year, so options a lot more limited.

ChrissyHynde · 06/12/2019 06:23

Morzine for skiing but the town has lots of other facilities as well , so perfect for your needs

foobio · 06/12/2019 06:39

Morzine. In my experience noone wants to cook after a long day's skiing, nor be the one to do the shopping or the washing up!

skeemee · 06/12/2019 11:51

Or option 4?

Go to www.chaletsdirect.com, go to the Solutions Room, and post up your dates etc.

You will get lots of answers for Xmas, maybe in a different ski area that you fancy?

skeemee · 06/12/2019 12:06

I'm actually on www.chaletsdirect.com just now, but I'm looking for New Year dates.

I saw this post, and thought of you!

Good shout @skeemee . We've used Chalets Direct that way loads in the past!

I can't believe the brilliant deals for Xmas! Some real cracking chalets, and I think the ski passes are on a BOGOF that week (in the Portes du Soleil).

The prices I am getting for new year are much dearer, but still cheaper than self catering in a basic apartment. It's a no brainer for us.

Luxury chalet with hot tub, all food, wine with dinner, lifts to the slopes
vs
Basic apartment with dodgy decor and you still have to buy your own food, wine and toilet roll, and costs more?

Catered chalet here we come!

PisteOff44 · 06/12/2019 20:55

Well the self catering options lovely (think wooden huts in the woods) but a lot more DIY.

We are exhausted from a busy year, a big birthday is coming up and I just got a promotion so I think #3 will be a lovely treat!

Moraine is low so check snowfall. Courchevel is beautiful. We love chalets.. who wants to lug around town when you’re shattered when you can sit in your pj’s and wait to be summoned to table?

PisteOff44 · 07/12/2019 11:38

Snow is amazeballs so far. Unless we get a heatwave I think it’ll be ok.

Yes I really fancied somewhere different such as Courchevel as never been and heard so many good things, but will save that for another time... it’s not going anywhere!

We’ve confirmed #3 now and very excited!!!!
