Flaine!

Anyone been to flaine? Please let me know your thoughts?

We are with our kids who are keen beginners. Dh and are experienced boarders.

Bumping for the Afterschool crew

I've not stayed in Flaine - we stayed in Samoens - but the skiing there was a lot nicer and not as clogged up as the other areas of the Grand Massif as unless you're staying there it's a trek to get across.

The only downside is it's not a very pretty complex and might feel a but isolated in the evening.

I wouldn’t. Apres ski not that great. Position of mountains means it get quite icy and very bumpy mid afternoon. I didn’t think it was great for beginners. Look at somewhere like deux alps

Thanks for your messages, we have decided to book in Les Arcs instead. We stayed in La Plange last year and popped over to Les arcs for the day. So feel like this is a good option

I guess there is a reason why Flaine is cheaper!

I really liked Flaine. Yes it's ugly, and not a lot of apres ski, but we could step out from apartment and walk 20 paces to the nearest lift which was fab.
Deux alpes OTOH I hated- we went when v little snow & it was horribly icy.

Les arcs also very good choice.

We fitted in a sneaky surprise trip to Flaine last Easter after our Feb. Les Arcs holiday, we loved Flaine but mostly because it was much quieter, cheaper and the weather was better. Also quicker to drive to. We stayed in the Pierre vacances resort which was ski in ski out (just!) and there was a bus stop outside the complex which got you into town for a free 5-10 minute ride, shops and (expensive) restaurants and the main ski bowl area. I would say Les arcs would be better for learners and 1950 especially has a lovely village atmosphere with activities for the younger kids in the 'village square' in the evenings. Overall much more convenient.
