Does anywhere tick these boxes or is this an impossible ask?

Can hack it if the resort is a bit pricey and don’t mind what country.

Is this even vaguely possible?
Every resort we look at at lacks something and would really love to actually find the perfect place but accepting it may not exist in real life!

Montgenevre if you fly in to Turin should tick those boxes , has a good reputation for early season snow, loads of really nice cruisy blues

Loads of places might fit the bill; the issue is that it’s so hard to tell which will have snow. We went to Davis just after last new year; really easy train transfer from Zurich and there was absolutely loads of snow. Around the same time most of France had very little fresh.
Other years have been completely the opposite.

3 vallees in France.

Obergurgl in Austria might work. It has a few ski in ski out hotels and the village is small anyway. Lots of easy runs. Very high altitude so snow is good and there is a lot of snowmaking. The ski area isn't huge, it's linked by bus and gondola (accessed by a short red run one way) to Hochgurgl which is the next village. Your pass however would let you also ski in Solden which is a 20 minute bus ride down the valley and has a much bigger area and a glacier. Transfer from Innsbruck is about 90 minutes.

I think the ski area might be a bit small for what we are after I’m that area- we did have a look at it though and it’s great to hear you like it there as we might put it back on the list if it’s recommended!

@OrchidInTheSun three valleys is somewhere we have been a couple of times and found the transfer a bit much. Great ski area though.

Current top pick is Avoriaz.

Anyone been that time in the season?

La Tania, linked to Courchevel and therefore the whole 3 Valley area.

Avoriaz can be a worry for snow at xmas.

Les deux alpes is ok - not that many cruisy blues lower down but higher up on the glacier etc there is loads and it is snowsure.

You can’t guarantee snow anywhere early in the season. We went to southern Scandinavia a few years back at Christmas as my family were not convinced there would be know in my choice of Austria. Imagine everyone’s dismay when we got there and found we could still see the grass growing round our cabin! Austria in the meantime was experiencing record dumps.

If good skiing is important to you I would look for a resort with access to a glacier or high altitude skiing, however that does not lend itself to cruisey blues or ski in ski out.

Avoriaz always gets very good write ups at that time of year, however it does get busy if there is poor snow down the hill in morzine. Alternatively take a look at Canada if money is not an issue. Northern Scandinavia will tick the boxes too but will be dark and skiing limited at that time of year. However the atmosphere will be very festive and there will be lots of other snow sports (xc skiing, husky driving, ice climbing, snow mobiling, etc) to do.

Go by train? To les arcs.

Les Arc 1950 is amazing!

Tignes? Not sure on the transfer time as we’ve either driven or got the ski train but it has a glacier and we stayed in a hotel that was 30 seconds’ walk from one of the main chair lifts. Huge ski area with the espace killy lift pass.

Deux alps but you need to be at the top for the blues. Been at new year a few times and been great every time.
