Driving from Calais to Serre Chevalier - where to stop?

Where would people recommend for overnight stops on this route? Somewhere to spend an afternoon / evening looking around, not a motorway type stop.

We’re thinking Macon, Reims, Troyes, Dijon...? Any recommendations?

Reims is very nice. We stop at Troyes going to Bourgogne but just at the Aire. Dijon is ok but not much to see..

Chalon sur soane or Dole are nice towns.

Bumping for any other thoughts

Hi we did just this in February half term and had a wonderful time stopping in both directions in Troyes. Beautiful old town centre, great restaurants (kids were crazy about one called Black Cat but great looking more sophisticated ones). We stayed here www.booking.com/Share-490CTC (Zenaida apartment) and it was great - a bit functional but secure parking, quiet comfortable rooms and very near cathedral for atmospheric stroll to town centre. Traffic from Grenoble to Serre Chevalier was very slow but I think peak French school holidays went we went. Skiing was fantastic. Enjoy!
