Hi there

This is a long shot. A friend Of mine visited with her young children a large town in Austria in June time a number of years ago.

She and her family (train and bus ride to get there) managed to have beginner skiing lessons at some resort that had lots of snow - that late in the year!

Would this be accurate? If so - where do you think it was!

I’m looking at taking my young children (8&4) for a few days during Easter holidays (around 14/4) and would love to give them a lesson or two as their first ever go!

I didn’t think there would be any snow left this late as there has been such low amounts of fresh snow this past few weeks.....

Any ideas where this could be? She can’t remember the name and I’ve failed to find where it might have been?

Thanks

Hintertux (Mayrhofen valley) has a glacier and all year skiing. There's a bigger town, possibly Zell am Ziller in the same valley with a train/bus link to hintertux.

Probably one of the glaciers - for example Zell am See/Kaprun, Mayrhofen/Hintertux, Stubai (ski racers train there in summer). Not all will be open as early as June though and conditions mean that you have an early start.

Perhaps it was Innsbruck to the Stubai Glacier? Pretty sure that it’s open for skiing all the way up until June.

We went to Hintertux in May half term and there's a glacier so there's snow all year round. Out of winter season though its not beginners skiing, its intermediate and advanced but Easter beginners slopes may still be open - check though. Still nice and there's an ice palace there. We stayed at the Kinder Hotel in Hintertux which is really good for that age and great food - flights with Easyjet and then hotel via Booking.com.

We've also been skiing at Easter by Samoens in France, its right at end of season so do check still open and risky for snow but we have always had plenty and half empty.

This is Kinder Hotel view.

That hotel looks lovely! I’ll look into that now!

I never really thought about where has skiing in April - with beginner slopes still open....

They have kids lessons here which isn't too far away though may need a car - seems to go to 12 April which is roughly date most French slopes close too. www.checkyeti.com/en/ski-pro-austria/skiing-lessons-for-kids-4-12-years---all-levels?resortId=87&participantsCount=1

When we went beginners slopes were closed though my DD went skiing and has only been a few times and my son played in the snow, we all went to Eis Palace there and up the cable car and lots of activities at hotel for kids. Definitely seasons though in what's available - I think skiing in June is more for intermediate to professional skiers and beginners skiing and kids lessons go to early to mid April - every resort has different date so check and snow conditions can vary then. It's funny going in June though as summery at the bottom, winter at the top, kids loved it.
