So ... I am a curvy 14-16 , weight being on my bum , hips and boobs .

I went shopping in town this weekend and bought clothes from a few high st stores all size 14-16. I've tried a few 18s on when things have been out of stock and they drown me .

I have just tried on several pairs of different brands salopettes and I cannot get in any of them 🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭.

A size 18 will just zip up and the button won't fasten .

What do I do ?! Are they always small fitting ? I haven't bought new gear in years .

I've bought a 16 and an 18 on eBay too and they will be going back up for sale most likely .

Going to have a look at Snow and rock and decathalon too but preparing to be a large size given everyone's comments

Salopettes only necessary for Canada and Scandinavia? Shock Hmm. I was in Switzerland last week. It was minus 25 at the top plus windchill(3500masl) and minus 15 in the village (1800masl). Waterproof overtrousers would have been positively dangerous in those conditions. Over what do you mean anniehm? What are you wearing under the waterproofs? Fur leggings? Hmm. I was wearing warm lined salopettes plus thick wool tights plus wool ski socks, a vest, a long sleeved thermal mid layer, a cashmere sweater, a fleece turtle, down mitts and heavyweight over mitts.

FlamingJuno · 06/02/2019 12:58

Oh and a padded ski jacket of course.

sleepwhenidie · 06/02/2019 13:29

Agree Juno-DH was in France last week and it was -20. And last year there were days at half term -10. Not the norm but certainly not that unusual!

namechangedforanon · 06/02/2019 18:06

I usually wear leggings , salopettes , sports bra , long sleeve tee and a fleece then jacket . Typically with a snood and obviously mittens .

Personally I've never skied when it's been super super cold 🤣

I bought trousers from Mountain Warehouse last year that were a true size

citykat · 08/02/2019 13:49

Panicking a bit reading this! Think that I need to go and try on kit as am quite possibly a bit more rotund than last year😂Bought 12 year old age 14 salopettes in Decathlon- the jacket fits fine but the trousers were tiny. Bought her adult S ( in a brand that does XS, S, M) as those she could sit down in! The fashion for fitted gear doesn't help, it was all a lot baggier and easier to wear in the 90s ( ski wear and other clothes).

RavenLG · 08/02/2019 14:05

Lol @ “I didn’t realise this was in a ski thread” when it literally says ski clothing sizes Hmm

I will say I’ve never skiied but I was looking for gym clothes online and saw salopettes on Asos! No idea of the quality etc but this was in the plus size section so might be worth a try?

OxanaVorontsova · 08/02/2019 18:12

I have some Columbia salopettes that are pretty much true to size - I am a 12-14 and the medium is snugger than it was a couple of years ago, but still wearable

namechangedforanon · 08/02/2019 22:49

Thanks Raven will have a look! xx

I’m currently wearing a pair of Next 12 (fabulous vanity sizing there) jeans and my M&S size 14 jeggings are a bit loose.

My salopettes are Scanda and have a nice elasticated waistband. They’re size 14/16.

I have some Surfanic XL bottoms that are snug.

Mountain Warehouse 16 has plenty of room.

HTH :)

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm · 13/02/2019 18:57

Tog24 do stretchy ski bottoms. They even do them in short length. I am feeling a lot better about having to buy a size 18 now! Struggled to get them fastened too but were v comfy to wear.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 05/03/2019 22:45

I'm 16/18 in trousers and got a pair of 16 salopettes in Mountain Warehouse this year. I was pretty astonished! They were nice too. My previous pair, when I was not much bigger, were men's MW size L as that was all I could find to fit.

A friend got some really nice plus size ones on ASOS.

namechangedforanon · 05/03/2019 23:45

I got a pair in a size 18 from ASOS Curve range...

Ordered 4 Dare 2 B pairs - one 18 fit, one didn't , one 20 was too small, one fit.

Ordered some Nevica size 18, bit tight .. but the size 20 were comparatively huge.

So so weird!

Well I've just treated myself to a pair of Animal ski pants in the sale of course I didn't buy them just because the size 14 fitted as that would be silly . Tried on a different brand and couldn't get the size 14 past my knees ( and whilst I'm curvy at the rump and tum I've got pretty slender lower legs) so indeed - go figure!

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 24/03/2019 10:54

wish they would do salopettes with elastic panels in the waistband (like some under bump maternity jeans

Mine are (or were until they got sliced along with by bum in an accident Shock) like that
Degree 7, Henri Duvilliard, Ingid.
I’m a vanity 10/12 but a full 42 in this brand. Bloody comfy though.

willstarttomorrow · 26/03/2019 18:41

Just managed to finally get DD a pair of saloppettes to fit. She is 13 and not on the large side by any means but it seems skiers should not have hips! Randomly bought a pair of soft shell ski trousers from aldi in size 10 and they are perfect! Also reduced to £10.

millimat · 08/06/2019 10:13

I need new salopettes as mine are wearing away at the seams. I'm now panicking!
My old ones are ripcurl - assuming more snowboarding style and I love them. They took me ages to find. I'm usually a size 16 so dread to think what size in ski clothes! Where should I look?

Teddybear45 · 08/06/2019 10:19

It’s not your size but your shape. Skiiwear tends to be a better fit if you are man shaped regardless of your size. For example my flat chested, no hipped, big bellied size 16 friend has fewer issues finding well fitting skiiwear than I do (pear shaped, proper size 12 but curvy).

Try sweaty betty or another brand aimed at women. They often accomodate pear and curvier shaped women.

millimat · 10/06/2019 07:11

I tried on some Burton salopettes - they were what I consider true to size, if not a bit on the big side. Then tried on the same size in Roxy and couldn't get anywhere near fastening them! However the Roxy ones had a lovely high waist with elasticated parts.
