Resort recommendations for non skier!!

Family of 5 adults and we’re looking for a resort with enough to do for a non skier, happy to self cater or chalet but is there a resort with more to do than cafe culture for those afternoons after ski school? 3 of the group are super skiers and will be on the slopes all day, so staying off resort somewhere interesting wouldn’t work.

Zermatt?? Gorgeous village with lots of atmosphere, shopping, spa, amazing restaurants on and off the mountain etc so plenty for the non-skier to do. And for the skiers it’s second to none! Not cheap though.

Another vote for Zermatt

A proper town rather than a dedicated resort Chamonix?.... stay La Tour and the beginners will be fine, other areas are quite tough skiing though.

Eurgh it's all so expensive! The super skiers in the family usually stay in bleak flats in Tignes normally, but they're so grim and the tiny pretty resort with cheap ski passes has no availability.

When are you going? Morzine is quite good, but needs to be earlier in the season.

Tignes is a purpose built resort - for late snow and not pretty. It does have a big pool though.

Unfortunately we’re looking for 29/December!

Unfortunately if you are looking for cheap on those dates i think you will struggle to find something that isn't a dedicated resort for skiers which will have big capacity like the soulless high up french ones which even then won't be cheap.
I echo that for non skiers I would always suggest Zermatt or Chamonix.
What does the non skiers actually expect to do if you say that cafe culture isn't enough might be an easier way to approach it?
If they are happy with swimming and ice skating then we actually like Alpe d'Huez. There's a heated outdoor pool and ice skating rink. A bigger sports centre that I've not been in but might offer other sports and also we had a really nice day out on the ski bus wandering around the pretty village of Huez.

Saas Fee - indoor pool, cleared walking paths including a dedicated mountain for non skiers, traffic free town , sledding, ice rink ...

drspouse · 24/10/2018 12:05

St Anton has both swimming and ice skating in town and is quite pretty (but small). Also a few winter walks.

Etino · 24/10/2018 13:43

Thank you so much, I'd not thought of St Anton, know Saas Fee.
I've decided to wait for something to fall into my lap! Looking through emails I see I'm usually panicking at this stage. We usually go somewhere hot but juggling various annual leaves has cut us down to a week.
But I will just check on St Anton!

Check Merano in Italy. Thermal spas, clear paths , cafes etc

LIZS · 02/11/2018 07:27

There was an article in Last Saturday's Times about Livigno offering a range of activities for non skiers.

Redandblue11 · 02/11/2018 08:24

I went to Livigno once, I was sking. It is beautiful, but is very high (3000 mts, where aMerano is 2000) and is bloody -26 degrees, so although might have some activities... you could not do much it was so cold. I went for New Year at the time.

FrederickCreeding · 03/11/2018 09:04

Innsbruck? Or more specifically a ski resort nearby (Axmer Lizum etc) and the non-skiers can easily get a bus into Innsbruck and have lots to do?

LIZS · 03/11/2018 09:16

Seefeld might be a good choice near Innsbruck.

darceybussell · 03/11/2018 09:19

Does it need to be Europe? Banff?

welshweasel · 03/11/2018 09:25

Les deux alpes?
