Talk to me about how you get fit to ski?

I'm active, but don't "exercise". Last few years my legs (mainly thighs, but also calf's) have ached.

The kids are getting to a stage where they can ski pretty much anything, all day long and I want to be able to keep up!

What exercise do you recommend to have me slope ready for Feb?

Personally I find that nothing beats running to get your stamina up.

On top of that I do a lot of ski (snowboard rather) specific exercises about 6 weeks before I go so lots of squats and lunges and side to side squat jumps. And some more squats.. Grin

Something like this is good for a 6 week plan:

Basic strength training rotation HITT style of lunges, squats (single & dble leg), plank etc. On you tube the British team had a lady from the ski team doing a great workout all done with only body weight, as she said she does it in a hotel room. I’ll see if I can find the link.

Don't forget your obliques, you need to be able to twist upwards to each side, so strength and flexibility like a corkscrew.

I did a six-week session of kickboxing - once a week classes. It helped tremendously - I think it was all the squats!

Run. If I'm up to 20 miles a week I can ski all day and not be bothered by it.

Running is good, leg work etc. I do the 30 day shred loads, doesn't take long and gives a good all body workout. Core is really important.

I do try and do some press ups and tri-dips so when I'm pushing along and carrying my skis my arms don't hurt.

Don't know if it helps but saw this on my newsletter today www.andorraresorts.com/blog/2018/pre-ski-fitness/
