Snow holiday with young kids

Can anyone recommend any good snow based family holidays, with kids aged 9, 3 and 2?

I would like there to be plenty to do for the younger ones, not just skiing, but it would be good if there was some skiing for the eldest.

Will you be looking for childcare while you ski?

We have been away with ski famille. They take the little ones outside to play in the snow.

Or are you looking to play with them yourself and drop eldest off at ski school? If so then just find an apartment in ski resort. Most resorts have a complete beginners tiny slope which is free. You can hire some tiny skis and take the little ones there. Usually also tobogganing areas with gentle slopes.

I had been thinking about mostly playing with them ourselves. I'd be concerned that they wouldn't want to stay away from us at a childcare type thing, especially the youngest. I don't think I'd be able to relax if I thought he was fretting. I'll maybe have a look for an apartment with access to a pool or something, they'd all like that.

If you are happy to go independently look at pierre et vacances apartments. Ski Esprit and Crystal offer daycare but neither are obligatory. Also kinderhotels and kidshotels are family friendly but locally managed.

If you want France Avoriaz would suit your needs. It’s my little boy’s favourite ski resort.
Or look at Salen in Sweden.

Saariselkä in Lapland! It's a lovely small village and has world's northernmost ski resort. We went there in Feb half term for a week and had a great holiday.

The ski resort is small and compact, perfect for beginners. My two DC were 7 and 9 at the time and booked them on for private ski lessons on four days. This was worth the cost as they both loved it and on day four were coming down the big hill.

The ski resort have a huge toboggan hill, you will need a day pass for this as you will need to use the chair lift to take you up. There's is also smaller hills for toboggans and sliders and they are free. You can also use small practise slopes for skis for free, just need to hire the skis itself.

In Saariselkä you can also see reindeers and do husky excursions which are great fun. You might be lucky to see the norther lights too. I'm Finnish myself but everyone speaks a good English there.

Hi sorry to hijack. Looking for the same kid of idea. Is there anywhere that does this in October? Half term as I know it's very early season. Non of the family have skied before. Dc 8 and 6. Need it to be a small quiet place as my son gets overwhelmed

We loved Alpe Cermis in March this year with our 9 and 4 year old. Quiet pistes, great instructors. We also had day trips to Obereggen for toboganning and Latemar for an alpine coaster. It was great fun! This is our blog about it :)
