Skiing at Christmas?

Hi all

Have any of you gone skiing over the Christmas week? How does it work - do you still get meals etc on Christmas? I'd assume that ski school wouldn't run on Christmas Day itself but does it run on the other days?

This may be Pie in the Sky as I have a feeling that my husband wouldn't agree to go away for Christmas itself.

Done it a couple of times now and love it! Tends to be a lot lower key than here , definitely not as much hype which I love. You will be able to ski all day , if you wish , its business as usual so to speak and most hotels will give you a special meal most probably on the Xmas eve ... hope this helps

Yes, thank you! I just feel like doing something different this year but I think my husband likes to have the same Christmas every year.

Did it as a kid, loved it. Special meal Xmas eve, quieter skiing on the day but still entirely possible to ski. Hotel decorated, snow made it magical, but just a couple of presents each and all the materialism/tat/stress/tackiness/greed/commercialism taken out of it. Loved it and would do it for mine if it were just up to me but we never go skiing as haven't got the ££.

It's fantastic, much lower key than here. Ski all day Xmas Eve, carols outside hotel with mulled wine, father Xmas going past on sleigh then lovely meal. No stress and pressure for the perfect Xmas. Xmas day hot chocolate up the slopes in the sun. We did it for the first time 2 years ago, going again this year!. We go to Austria.

Ah, it sounds so nice. I think the problem with Christmas (for me) is that people start asking what we are doing in early September, school do loads for Christmas in December and by Christmas Day, I've pretty much had enough.

We skied and lessons run on Xmas day as normal. The lifts shut slightly earlier on Xmas eve.

We were in Finland last time and it was amazing. We did swing by and see FC before he went off to work. One of my Top 3 holidays EVER!

We've skied over Christmas in 2015 and 2017. Love it. No change on Christmas Day (or Christmas Eve) to lifts and lessons - albeit we don't do ski school, the children had private lessons so didn't book a lesson on Christmas Day. We skied in Italy on Christmas Day morning then skied over into Zermatt in the afternoon.

It's as Christmassy as you want to make it. We had trips up the mountain on skidoos to a restaurant on Christmas Eve, a small case worth of presents, lots of fairy lights, have a 'special' lunch on the mountain on Christmas Day with crackers etc. It keeps some of the Christmassy traditions without the stress. Everyone is very relaxed and we've found the slopes really quiet. Go for it! It's magical!

Actually just realised we were in Canada last time, but Finland before. Xmas in Finland was def the more magical, but Whistler was great too. It just carried on as normalperhaps why I forgot We just take a few small pressies and have Xmas before with the rest of our family.

We've been away skiing several times over Christmas with extended family since the DC were small.

I love it! We have always been with small, independent chalet operators and had the chalet for sole occupancy so it's a real home from home. UK operators will do a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and the resort usually do a torchlit descent and fireworks on Christmas Eve.

We ski as normal on Chrsitams day but finish a bit earlier for a later afternoon Christmas dinner. Lessons go on as normal.

We take stockings for the kids and do a secret Santa for everyone over dinner and it makes the day much less present oreintated and commercial.

Pick a high resort - a couple of times Morzine has had no snow at village level.
