Are you expected to tip chalet staff and if so how much? Cheers

I was once a chalet host and I’d say yes please if you liked the “service”. I got paid next to nothing as we had board& lodging included but I worked extremely hard with hardly any time off. It wasn’t expected but it was really appreciated. However this was 20yrs ago!

We always tip the chalet staff. We’re usually in a big group and stick in 30 Euros per family.

We tend to leave about EU20 for dh and I basic but more if they’ve been really good. Or another EU20 for the childcare staff if we’ve brought ds.

Usually £/€10 per adult is about right I reckon Smile

I tip 10euros a day, to be shared between staff. Plus a bit extra for anyone who has been truly amazing. So I tend to tip 100 for a week.

We generally tip about €100 euros per staff member. So 3 staff is €300 euros in a 10 person chalet. Only in a good chalet though. One chalet we visited had a single host/chalet maid, who was EXCEPTIONAL. I can still remember her home made cheese straws.. as can everyone else on that holiday. We gave her €300 just for her, but by god it was worth every penny. Best holiday I’ve ever had and pretty much most of it was down to her.

SueSueDonahue · 03/01/2018 11:33

@MammaAgata is that just you or between you and a few families and that seems a lot otherwise!

The other two families we skied with recently also did 100, so we were 300 between us.

If we'd done 300 each I reckon they'd have come home with us!

MammaAgata · 03/01/2018 11:39

Sorry 3 staff is €300 euros between 10 people. So €30 euros per person.

snowgirl1 · 23/01/2018 13:39

We usually do 10 euros from each family member, so 30 euros total.

I was a chalet host years ago - had guests who called in advance of coming to the resort to ask if there was anything we wanted them to bring. Our requests were for peanut butter and marmite!

100 euros split into 50 euros for the staff member who did the free ski guiding (not a French resort) and most mornings, it was just DH & him and 50 euros shared amongst the rest. Family of 4 - 2 adults & 2 children for 1 week.
