I have some euro left from last holiday and wonder can I spend them in zermatt or is it strictly swiss francs?

Take Swiss francs although some restaurants and hotels, and perhaps ski school and lift office, will accept Euros but not convert at a great rate and you won't be warmly greeted for doing so!

are you in Zermatt next week?
If so you will be the 3rd MNer

In my experience, most places in Zermatt will take any freely-exchangable currency - but often at a cr*p rate. If you've some to use up, then use it, but otherwise get Swiss francs (for best rates from an ATM using a Nationwide debit card).
