skiing for family of 6 - costs?

Dh suggested we go skiing in Feb half term 2018 when the youngest dd is 8 which also gives us 18 mths to save

My question is what sort of budget should we have - dh and I are both competent skiers although haven't been since DC were born. DC will be 15, 12, 11 and 8. All have had a few lessons at the snow dome in Milton Keynes so are not complete novices, however the plan will be to book them into ski school when we go.

Looking for suggestions re where to visit - would like somewhere with a range of runs and good apres ski!

Get a company brochure for Feb 2017 and take it from there. My guessing is half term will be fierce. Atleast £1500 each so times 6 around £9000!

Budget will be very dependent on what kind of accommodation you're looking at. If you're prepared to drive and stay in self catering accommodation, take loads of food with you etc. then you could probably do it pretty cheaply.

Going to Tignes and Val d Ísere (France) for many years. 2 families, 2 kids each. We stay in Tignes (self catering apartments, really affordable and decent), but ski / have drinks in Val d Isere (easier ski runs, kids like them more)
We take a weekly pass covering both Tignes and Val d'Isere. Apartments come with kitchen, there are supermarkets in the resorts, so pretty easy to cook food
I'm booking through www.tignes.net/, not sure they have the ski offers up yet. Catch a plane to Geneve (or Turin), then rent a car

Alpe du Huez (France) - another budget place, they have a few absolutely free ski lifts for beginners which is great. Not many bars though

Italy Madonna di Campiglio is also nice. Take a ski pass covering all the 6-7 ski regions (super ski rama), stay in some of the cheaper resorts there, ski in Madonna di Campiglio

Feb is expensive, but if you stay in apartment & cook food, it can be pretty cheap.

You would actually save a lot on accommodation costs if you check out skiing accommodation websites such as france-skiing.net/family-ski-holidays-france.html. There, you can compare all the accommodation deals available. You also get an idea on their amenities and the other things that your kids can do, aside from skiing. Hope this helps!

We are a family of 5 but used airbnb when we went last year - apartment was big enough (at a squeeze!) for 6. We went to Cervinia in Italy and loved it. Really reasonable, ate out cheaply, apres ski was fab.

Ooh I've not thought about Airbnb! We were in Cervinia last season and enjoyed it, much cheaper than France too.

I agree with Morzine.
You can easily drive or its close to Geneva. There's lots of nice apartments to rent.
It may be cheaper to get private lessons than ski school for 4. ESF are just as good as the much more expensive English schools.

We are staying in a catered hotel for 40 (several families) and all in (flights, food, lessons, transfers and ski passes and hire etc) is £3200 for family of 4 in Feb half term. Booked all separate! Kids are 11&9. My brothers family of 5 is paying £600 more so if say £4-5k is doable if booking independently

I would never go in France again. Shit food at absurd prices and I'm in France. Italy is awesome. I went to livigno. Awkward to get to but fab and duty free.

Flights to Barcelona are currently £250 return Feb half term for family of four!!! For all four!

Transfers £50pp return to Andorra resorts then most apartments are £600-900 for the week! Absolute bargain!
