What's the skiing like in gressoney or les gets?

Have narrowed down next year's holiday to Les gets or gressoney with esprit. All things equal (fly from our local airport, similar chalet, short transfer) so it comes down to the skiing for the adults.

Has anyone skied either? How much to explore? What sort of runs? How snowsure? How much can you do without resorting to buses?

What date are you going? I've been to both so it will also depend on that and where the chalets are in resort....

Not school hols. Late Feb or early March. Flexible.

Chalets in both are equal distance from lifts.
Childcare same.
Transfer time same.

Les gets is great, good links to other resorts, good learner slopes. I liked it.

It depends on your skiing level / ages of the kids.

Gressonay, chairlift directly behind the hotel that leads onto reds. Nothing suitable for beginners close by so they need to be minibussed off for lessons or get good quickly. Gressonay has 3 restaurants and very few bars, town is very limited. Kids lessons also start mid-morning, so you drop them off with the staff who get them ready for lessons.

Les Gets, the chalets are a bit of a walk from the slopes, but if you use their ski hire, you can leave your kit in the shop next to the piste and walk up in your normal shoes and change over. It's not that far in reality, but wouldn't be fun in ski boots / carrrying skis. You drop the kids off dressed ready to ski. Younger kids will be minibussed to slopes, older might walk depending on numbers etc. Les Gets is lovely for a wander around has an ice rink, a lots of shops, restaurants etc.

Knowing both resorts well I would pick Les Gets despite the walk. It is also better for beginner / intermediate skiers. You can have the wider pass that covers Avoriaz too if the kids are in care all day or at least until after lunch.

Les Gets every time. But I'm biased.
