Which resort - 5 nights no children - DIY - Quality Hotel - Scenic?

We are off on a 5 night sk break for our 40th Bdays want value for money ,,,will prob book it all myself but would like a pretty romantic resort - we have skiied years ago -- dont want a long transfer time ...any recommendations?..ie resort and hotel

VFM and Romantic? You want a lot!

I'd suggest some of the smaller Austrian resorts: pick up a brochure and see what's on off an hour or so from Salzburg.

Nearer to Innsbruck, and if you budget could stretch to it, I'd strongly recommend the Alpehof in Solden: excellent ski area and excellent 'wellness centre' in the hotel, but sufficiently out of the resort to avoid what is a very popular resort - and not too many brits either!

we went last weekend to Les Houches, one end of the Chamonix valley

hotel was fantastic - run by british woman and her fab british ( french speaking) staff - could not have bben more helpful
1 hour from geneva
great restaurants a very short walk away
lots of skiing if you are prepared to move a little
had a fab kunh on the mountain in a small french place etc

bad

hotel was quite expensive £200/3 days for two
ski areas are not interlinked
need to travel to the other ski areas either car (very very easy) or bus - alos easy and free
les houches is only 1010 meters and we prety much skied it out in a day....
too many drag lifts ( at les houches - none at Grandes montets where we skied the second day of our three day trip)
