Strap-on skis for young toddler - anyone tried them?

Will be going skiing with 18mo DS. I've seen these baby/toddler skis which strap over ski shoes for playing in the snow:

Anyone tried them/anything similar? I thought they might be fun to gently get DS used to the idea of skis?

Tried them with a 2 year old. They were a 5 minute wonder for us - dragged dd along for a bit but she wasn't really bothered. It was her first ski hol.

The ski hire place let us try them for free because she so little so maybe see if you can do that instead of buying them to see how it goes.

I think they're a bit pointless too to be honest.. Sledging and playing in the snow is much more fun.. Wait till he's 3 then get him on proper skis. :-) I highly recommend one of those pull-along sledges though.. they're great.

Agree with others....waste of time. But playing in the snow and sledging is good fun. I remember accidentally dunking DS2 in the snow when he was about 1. A year later we have one if my favourite photos of him sitting in the snow in Risoul with DH (and looking a lot happier!)

I think I got over excited seeing YouTube videos of 17mos whizzing downhill on proper skis on real slopes

Plate, we tried them when daughter was 2, agree waste of time, wait till you can put him on proper skis, as other people advise, playing in snow and sledging are good fun too :) Where are you off too ??

Ooh - when are you going? We're going back in January.

We've been several times before. Grolets is our favourite chalet.

Our dc are 7 and 10 now, the youngest wasn't skiing when we went the first couple of times so fire away with any questions!

So how can you entertain a non-skiing small toddler there? Obviously he'll be in childcare when we're skiing but we'll want some family time in the snow. Do they have sledges etc to borrow? Are there any lifts from Ardent you can take a toddler up in?

How's the skiing? Food?

Yes, they have small sledges that you can borrow, there's loads of outdoor space to play in, build snowmen etc too.

The bubble up from Ardent to Les Lindarets is fine to take little ones up in. The nursery staff try to get them out each day at least once so they often take them up.

Providing they have some good dumps of snow between now and then the skiing is fantastic. Take the bubble up to les Lindarets then one more chair and you're in Avoriaz. I'd get the full area lass then you can easily head to chatel and over into Switzerland. A good day trip is over to the far side of Les Gets, to Mont Chery - there is an amazing restaurant called La Grand Ourse which is run by a Cornish family. It's a long trip with a short walk / land train across Morzine and Les Gets but good to ski somewhere different.

Food and wine has always been plentiful and excellent and I'm not expecting this year to be any different!

18 months is probably a little young but ds had them when he was 2. They were great for playing in the garden, getting used to manoeuvring with skis on his feet. I can't remember if we skied with him between our legs with them on or not.

My ds has had them since 18 months old last winter. He's now turning 2 1/2 and loves shuffling about on them. It helps that dh and I have cross country skis so can shuffle about with him on the flat.

Dh has held him and slid down the nursery slope at the Lecht. The only thing ds loved more than his skis was the piste basher.

Fab to hear that Family Ski at Ardent are fab as we're going with them in January for the first time. We're at L'eau Vive.

Yes, love the Lecht. Helps to only live 45 mins away too. Gorgeous blue sky powder day on Sunday, sadly back to mud by Monday lunchtime.

I've done the Les Gets and Lindarets trips mentioned above, but starting from Morgins on the Swiss side. Quite a big day out especially if you linger over lunch.

We are closer to cairngorm than the Lecht. The lecht is just so much easier - car park right by the slopes. No train!
