Kids' socks - slightly too big, or a bit cosy?

Getting DD1 some socks for our trip in a week and a half Grin she's a shoe size 13ish, sometimes a 12. Ski socks seem to come in up to 12.5, or 13+

Is it better to have socks that might be a bit cosy, or ones with extra fabric on the toes? My instinct is a bit small but rely on stretchiness rather than having fabric bunch around the toes - she'll be skiing all day this time round, so needs to be comfy.

Mumsnet must be able to asnwer this one for me Blush

I'd say bigger. Trick to having warm toes is being able to move them freely in the boots. Cosier socks could restrict the movement.

Yeah, well that's just, like your opinion man. *

A fair point about wiggling, I'd forgotten that.

  • I totally love the Big Lebowski and pretty much every day DH and I shoehorn a line from it into conversation. Nearly said "new shit has come to light" to my boss on several occasions, then remembered not everyone is so keen on the film... Grin

MARK IT ZERO DUDE.

I swear, my entire relationship with DH is based on quoting lines back and forth at each other.

No, definitely not a bit big!! If they're too big, they will bunch up and rub and make her uncomfortable.

JumpJockey · 19/03/2015 21:58

Argh. Trixy, that's not helping! On the one hand, kids clothes are sized to fit yhe largest number on the label. On the other, sizes are often so arbitary... Dd's school cardigan supplier says "sizes may be up to 2cm larger or smaller than the measurements given" which isn't much help when the differeencd between sizes is only 4 cm. but that's another thread.

Cosy is definitely better as long as lengthwise they come up to above the top of the ski boot. Too big can cause blisters/ bruising in the boot if they get bunched up.
