Best kit for keeping warm

I'm looking for recommendations for warm jackets & waterproof warm gloves. We are off to Norway next Feb & whilst we were there this Feb, the weather was warmer than normal.

My dd age 7 was ok up & down the nursery slopes, where she kept moving, but as we moved to the chair lifts, she got quite cold.

She wore a balaclava, vest, merino wool long sleeve top & a wool mix fleece from decathlon. Her jacket is from Trespass & is a shell. I brought along one of those thin down gilets which helped but I don't think will cut it in 'true' Norway -15.

Despite buying decathlon waterproof gloves, they got wet & so hands got cold.

Oh also wore merino wool long johns & merino wool ski socks.

I'm wondering whether to buy a down ski jacket...

I was going to say layers, and merino wool but you've got those sorted already.

Ours always have 2 pairs of gloves - morning and afternoon ones as they always seem to get soaked.

I'm assuming she wore a helmet? If not mine keeps me toasty!

My sons wear what you mention, but have down jackets as opposed to shells. Unlike further south in Europe, the February sun is not really warming in Norway. Grin Have fun!

Have a look on ebay for Polarn O Pyret stuff - it's Swedish and is absolutely waterproof/windproof. It's not cheap but very well made and lasts for ever.

I wear inner gloves and outer mittens which keep hands much warmer than gloves.

Whereabouts in Norway are you going?

We are going to Hemsedal. My cousin has a cottage there, and we have been invited to join them for half term. Smile Never been skiing that far south before!

We are off to Geilo. I went to Hemsedal over 10 years ago - was good but cold ! Bigger ski area than geilo, but at the mo, that's what we like.

Yes, helmet & balaclava worn. I will change those to merino wool because the ones we had got damp.

I've been looking at Columbia ski gear but will also check out Polarn stuff, thanks. Did have 2 x pairs of gloves...daughter liked picking up & eating snow !

We also take a flask with hot choc for lunch.
