I never found the tags save any time as you can queue long before you get to split into the tag lane.

Sunday changeovers are much more preferable if you can get them. We normally get a tea time crossing, drive till about 11pm and then stay in a motel, set off early stopping off to do a large supermarket shop for the week.

I warn you, getting off a mountain on a Sat morning in peak season is horrendous.
