Ski helmets hand luggage?

Hi, I was just wondering if you take your own ski helmets with you in holiday? If so can they be classed as hand luggage or how do you take yours. I ask, as I don't really fancy hiring for hygiene reasons.

Normally put them in ski boot bags and wrap in skiwear to cushion them.

Either in ski bag with snowboards and boots or we have a boot rucksack that holds a pair of boots and a helmet ( dakaine)

Lizs and artandco, do you put the whole lot through luggage with your skis and boots or keep with you and put in the overhead hand luggage on the plane. I ask, as I know the helmets are not meant to be dropped or bashed about and I don't trust the baggage handlers to be gentle with my suit case.

In the hold

If in ski bag it goes in hold. If in rucksack it goes as handluggage. Depends on how much space is in ski bag ( ie how many boards/ skis in there).

I prefer it going in ski bag in hold as then I don't have to carry it around. It's usually stuffed with ski gloves/ socks in the middle and has salopettes or similar surrounding it so I feel it it's quite protected.

With usually x2 suitcases, x2 ski bags and x2 toddlers we prefer to have everything in as least bags as possible!

Thanks all!

You could wear it Grin

We take ours in hand luggage. Useful for filling up with goggles/sunglasses or other breakables.

snowgirl1 · 03/01/2014 12:41

Our boot bags are designed to take a helmet as well, so ours goes in the hold.

I fill them and wrap them ( and boots) with clothes and pack in hold bags.

My gloves, googles ( i use OTG type) a set of thermals are all in hand luggage as I COULD rent ski outer wear and boots if my hold luggage was lost or delayed. But I don;t want to buy new thermals or OTG googles.

2 adults, 1 x 7 year old. 2 hiking back packs, a hold all and three hand luggage day sacks.

We attach ours to the outside of our hand luggage as generally not enough space to put them in any of the other bags.

Hi,
I personally prefer hiring for ski rentals from reputed ski rentals store where you get quality equipments with proper hygiene. For this well known sports store is Twinner montgenèvre. You can check their ski rental collection at www.twinner-montgenevre.fr .
