Is 23rd March too late to be sure of snow?

I am about to book our first skiing holiday with our children 10, 6 and 2. We haven't been since we had kids and always used to go the first week of March. The only time we can get in to the chalet I had carefully spent hours choosing is 23rd March. (Going with le ski to la Tania - if anyone has any thoughts on that also?) worried that this is a bit late and it might be slushy spring skiing?

It's all down to height I think. Not sure what altitude La Tania is at or where you can ski up to. Last year we skiied the first week of April over near Alpe D'Huez. Skiing was great all week but the lower villages were turning a bit slushy by the end of the week.

It might be slushy down in La Tania itself, although it certainly wasn't two weeks later than that this year. However, you can easily access the rest of the 3 Valleys from there and the snow should be fine higher up. We've been at Easter several times.

Oh you are lucky to be able to get a ski holiday during term-time

we've been at that time and later in recent years and great but 10 years ago there would have been little snow if any . Sometimes you even get a good fresh snowfall but it is a gamble. For beginners they normally try to keep a dedicated area open even if it relocates from village level to top of a lift.

I think I'm going to go for it and hope for the best! 20 years ago I went to the three valleys and the snow was so bad even Meribel was completely green - still managed great skiing in Courcheval then so it can be done. There'll be lots more questions from me in the next few months - so excited! I've been torturing myself as a member of the ski club and still followed all the snow reports for the last ten years so I know just what amazing seasons I have been missing! Think snow!

If it is the Marmau then it is a lovely chalet (see my review on here). Also follow LaTania.co.uk for their video snow reports - they probably have the historical ones on their website (see the Blog area I think), so you could go back and see what they were saying about the snow levels for that week this year.

The last time we went we didn't even bother with the full skipass - just had the Courcheval one which was fine for us for the week.

I think you should be fine at that time of year. Resorts will be doing everything they can to keep everything in good shape for Easter.

Not in Geilo Norway, open until the end of April and march is in-between peak times, so great deals to be done. Also family friendly slopes and safe, with everyone speaking English and kids under 7 ski free.

I was in 3V last year first week in April and skiing was good tho' slushy in the afternoons lower down, in La Tania and 1550, and no fun skiing back into Meribel 1400 after 3pm. Good thing is snow had been spectacular this week in France, so maybe we're I n for a good winter - if like last year I shall be back in 3v in April as well as in Jan & Feb

Hi - I went to chalet Mar Mau last year - 24th March and the snow was amazing....ski right back to la tania no problem! I am going again....just booked today...but on the 30th March so I'll just miss you! I'll wave at you on the windy mountain roads :-)
