Cervinia?

We're looking at Cervinia this year for a change. Anyone got any recommendations for accommodation? And some general reviews?

Oooh - it's lovely. Been on many family skiing holidays there and hope to take DS when he is a little bit bigger - probably 2-3

I've stayed at the Hotel Compagnoni several times - three star-ish, nice, central. Cervinia is lovely and transfers nice and short too.

It's fairly high IIRC (think around 2100m at village level?). I am a wimp and got altitude effects and couldn't sleep . As for the walk through that tunnel at the very top of the glacier - shame there's not a boggle-eyed spinny-headed emoticon.

Cervinia village is absolutely lovely although bear in mind it's mostly car-free so you may have to lug your suitcases to your hotel. All but one (I think) hotel is below the lift up the hill which means it's a heck of a slog up about a billion high concrete steps but what the hell? Sitting in the Italian sunshine drinking a beer is lovely. Skiing is "OK" - a nip over to Zermatt is an unmissable - just er... don't miss the last cable car home because a 2 mile t-bar ain't much fun. I was rescued at the top of the mountain at dusk by a rather dashing Canadian who came out of the mist and dragged me back down in to Italy.

Pls to tell Italian men not to wear lycra ski pants? :(

It's all above the tree-line so no forests to ski through. When it gets cold and windy there isn't any shelter. Some of the lifts look like something from a museum, they wack you in the legs, hit you on the head as you leave! If you stay down below the lift (only 2-3 hotels above) it's a long uphill walk, with steps, which at that altitude really make the walk hard work. The town is cute, small by most standards, but ok. The runs are well-maintained and snow is guaranteed. It's a good resort if you like wide open cruising runs and there is of course the Swiss access if you have the legs and stamina for it. We went there 3 times, loved it, but have found better since in Austria - better food, better Apre Ski!
