Looking for a quiet Austrian ski resort

Just that really. We usually book flights and hotel separately, and then rent a car. The DC probably won't come with us next year as both are going away on school trips.

For the last few years we have stayed in Hollersbach, and skiied in Paß Thurn, which is not too busy. We would like a change, so are looking for a reasonably quiet (possibly cheap?) resort, not a well known one in all the British brochures.

We don't want nightlife, just skiing. A pool in the hotel would be good, and ski in/out would be perfect, but probably not an option.

We have been skiing for over twenty years, but are both a bit overweight, so we don't need a huge ski area, just a couple of nice enjoyable blues and reds.

Any suggestions?

Zauchensee (fly to Salzburg) look at ski Hillwood for info on nice hotels! Hillwood are really good if you need childcare too!

We stayed about 20 years ago at Waidring . Direct access to the ski area and iirc you could bus over to St Johann if you fancied a day out with more runs.

Axamer Lizum is a nice quiet resort - not huge though. Just a few hotels on the actual ski resort - no village. The nearest village is about a 15 min drive (Axams). Or Seefeld? Seefeld is probably busier, but is a very pretty town.

Officiallyamazing it's funny you recommended Axamer Lizum, that's the first place I ever skiied! It was a school trip and I was fourteen. I have lots of good memories of being there. I've been back a few times, but we want a bit more skiing than that.

we have gone twice to alpbach and would highly recommend it. Stayed in The Galtenberg hotel .The hotel is amazing, medium priced and your room key is also your ski pass. The hotel organises your transfer from Innsbruck airport( around 30 mins) . All food is included in the price of hotel, ski in and out.
The ski area is not massive ,mostly blue/ red runs but plenty for intermediates . Sorry Im rubbish at links but I have reviewed the hotel on the review section and Im sure theres alink there.

we went to Alpbach last half term and loved it. The transfers are short, he ski area is good and we did not have to queue once. The lift pass was way cheaper than we are paying this year in france. I particularly loved the cosy austrian bars and restaurants in the village and on the piste. The big downside is that if you stay in the village you have to get a bus to the cable car. The busses ran bang on time and we found it fine. We got a great deal at the gasthouse jakober but the alpbacherfof has a pool and gets great reviews.

Obertauern - an hour from Salzburg & circular ski area. Most hotels are ski in ski out or just crossing a single road each way. Reasonably priced lunch time food. Not many English

How much/ what level of skiing do you do? There are so many resorts it is hard to recommend without knowing more....

Maria Alm has a big area and is practically unknown in the UK

Ragusa - Shhh don't tell everyone about that resort. Am trying to keep quiet about it.....and was trying going to tell Primrose over a PM.

Definitely no nightlife in Obergurgl in the village but the skiing was great.

Lech is lovely, and pretty quiet. There's more nightlife going on in the neighbouring resorts (St Anton etc) that your lift-pass will also cover, but Lech itself is very chilled without being dead.

I have thought of somewhere I would recommend - hotel Salzburgerhof in Leogang. Direct access to slopes of Saalbach but so much quieter. Leogang home slopes nice and long, of red/blue gradient. Not on the package holiday map. Hotel has lovely wellness facilities and if you go off peak you may be able to get a package. Peak season it's fairly dear.

Look at Badkleinkirchheim in Austria. We stayed at Die Post for several years on the trot when the kids were younger and we were relative beginners. Quiet (outside half term) but a lovely hotel with great food and its own pool and spa. Accessible from Klagenfurt airport in Austria or Ljubljana in Slovenia, and the hotels will organise transfers if you prefer not to hire. It was really cheap (as skiing holidays go) when we last went.
