Ski gloves on kids

I don't know if it's just the gloves I had last year (head gloves/ mittens from Costco) but we really struggled to get them on. It seemed to be the cuff part that was difficult to negotiate with the cuff of their ski suits, does it go under or over the top? I don't know whether we need to buy new gloves this year, are mittens best? The kids are 4 and 7 btw.

over the cuff of the jumper or the elastic cuff of the jacket if it has one, but inside the sleeve of the jacket.

Better gloves have a velcro strap on the cuff to keep them on and snow out.

Mittens are OK for beginners with no pole handling aspirations, but how will they undo zips? Mittens also have fewer broken fingers than gloves, and are warmer.

You should get something with a goretex or similar interlining.

DD has mittens and manages with her poles fine, she's hurtling down blacks quite fast and plants her poles.

I've always put her coat on first and then the mittens but I saw other parents doing the opposite last week and it makes sense.

I've just sewn DS's mittens onto elastic through his jacket. I'm hoping it will stop him losing one half way through ski school or kids club.

He has one pair of decent padded mittens and then his back up gloves are just fleece gloves with a home made waterproof over mitt ( old gore tex trews recycled).

Gloves on elastic worked well.

DS did manage to CHEW a hole in the outer fabric of one glove and they were sopping wet every afternoon from his chewing, BUT he had warm hands. When he was sking he tended to chew one hand in concentration, rather like i stick my tongue out going down steep pitches.

Always, always mittens, over the top of their coats, and get them to pinch your nose to check they have their thumbs in properly. Gloves are a nightmare, too many fingers to squish in!

I think spyder do ones with a big cuff that almost goes up the their elbow (especially in the really wee sizes) that you can tighten a bit at the top.

those head mitts from costco last year were a bit crap, but the gloves were fine. i got some myself. Grin

we do under jacket for dd2, and over jacket for the other two, who are older and capable of getting them on and off themselves.

it really doesn't matter. as long as no snow gets in and they are warm. mitts are best for warmth and my lot (or even me at 41 lol) have no problems with poles. Grin

i buy mittens for my kids (and myself with glov liners) but one is starting to pronounce mittens 'uncool'. we bought some 'gloveglue' to attach to their gloves, but wool would do just as well i think.
we also bought some mittens with very long cuffs that couldn't be pulled off - very helpful with littleys who ALWAYS take their gloves off at any opportunity.
When i get a bit of time i will google the links for you.
