Can't decide bed & breakfast or halfboard for Christmas week

I used to always go self catering before I had DS but trying to get him ready to go out in the evening to find somewhere to eat or having to do all the cooking and washing up (he's only 6) doesn't seem like an easy option. On the other hand, halfboard feels like a week of fairly boring meals in the same place although the advantage is we could get to know others in our hotel better.

Does anyone have any good suggestions? Good food is a very important part of a holiday for me, I don't eat meat but do eat fish, DS eats anything.

Half Board, then you don't have to worry about making reservations, treking out in to the cold etc.
