Anyone been to La Tania?

Or even better, have you been with Ski Magic and used their childcare? We're looking at their catered chalets with care (and lessons) for four year olds and over.

Hiya. I worked a season in La Tania and think it's great for families. It's a small, quiet resort with only a couple of bars and a handful of (good) restaurants. It has a nice atmosphere and a compact centre. Public transport links to the village are poor though, and taxis are very expensive.
The one red run back to resort centre is fantastic when it's in good condition, but can get slushy quickly in poor weather as it is so heavily used. The skiing on the closest runs is excellent for intermediates, and you're well placed for both Courcheval and Meribel.
I haven't used Ski Magic, but worked for Ski Beat and then returned to them as a customer with an infant and they were great, really lovely childcare, nice food etc. Their La Tania chalets could all do with a bit of updating though, so we went to La Rosiere with them instead.

Been to La Tania but not with Ski Magic - we used Le Ski and their childcare (DD went to ESF and was then collected by the Le Ski nannies) - would totally recommend them.

La Tania is in an excellent position as you have the option of either having just the Courchevel pass or the whole L3V pass to take you over to Meribel and Val Thorens. We have been 3 times and the first two times we had the L3V pass but the last time we just had the Courchevel pass as we got that free with our booking - that actually worked fine for us and you do have the option of extending it across to the whole L3V for a day or two if you want.

Look at www.la-tania.co.uk for all sorts of information including their excellent snow forecast/conditions video that they record every weekend which shows you exactly what the conditions are like in resort.

The nursery area is right in the heart of the village at the bottom of the Folyeres. This has two levels: first with the magic carpet for the total beginners (where DD was the whole of her first week there) and the upper level for the more advanced which has a rope lift. From there they progress onto the learner button and slopes next to the nursery area - there are little bumps and jumps amongst the bushes on the sides of the piste that DD loved to go through: this is the Troika slope on the side of the nursery area . On DD's last day they took them up in the Gondola to the top and skiied down the green run which she thought was the best experience ever.

Went to the resort but not with that company. I was 5 weeks pg (great timing!) and it was a perfect resort for us as I obviously didn't want the crazy apres-ski and night life that had been a priority on previous ski trips. That was my only year of being in a catered chalet (can't remember the company, sorry) and it was lovely. It's a nice small resort, well equiped and easy to get around.

We had the pass that allowed us to use the widest amount of slopes in the area. Unfortuately the weather wasn't great (it was feb) so we probably didn't get the best out of it.

The downside - It's the only time I've skied in France (previously been to lots of resorts in Italy, and to Austria). I was gobsmacked at how expensive the mountain-side cafes and restaurants were in the thee valley's area, and the places in Corcheval and Marabel (sp?). La Tania itself wasn't too bad, but once you were out of the resort centre, it got silly. I'm used to enjoying a nice stodgy pasta dish at lunch time to keep me going in the afternoon, but there you were looking at over 20 Euro for spagetti bolognese!

But, I think I'd go back to La Tania again.
