How weird you have just posted GEO ... I am on a slight countdown too.
I have just booked for partner and I to go skiing 3-10th January 2012. Cant wait... plus we are not taking DS 10 yrs who last time we got there said"Im bored and I want to go home" He has been so many times , he is Blaze. (there is a french accent of the last 'e')

piano10 · 19/08/2011 16:07

Colorado...WOW! How lovely. I hope you have a fab time and the DCs enjoy it.

SkiBumMum · 19/08/2011 16:09

Great topic! Whistler in March. First time on skis for DD1 who will be 3.1 (Whistler Kids starts at 3!). Granny and Granpa coming along to have currently unborn baby who will be 6 mths. Yippppeee.

piano10 · 19/08/2011 16:14

If any of you guys need, or know a family that is looking for a mothers help/nanny, for a weeks skiing can you let me know.

Geocentric · 19/08/2011 17:56

Whistler - fun! I went there with my dad about 11 years ago (we're in South America so easier to ski in N. America than Europe), very nice.

Piano, where are you off to sans DS? (see, I can do chic Fench too... Grin)
I can't really help with the mothers help thing, unfortunately - wrong continent! Maybe advertise on something like the Snowheads forum?

Hurrah! I thought it was just me getting super excited already! I've just booked Christmas in Avoriaz and we have a chalet holiday with friends for DH's birthday in St Gervais. Too excited for words!

Can you report back on Colorado please? I fancy getting some skiing across the pond but never know where to start (hence end up going to France).

SkiBumMum · 19/08/2011 18:04

Not been to Colarado yet. Skied Jackson Hole 5 years ago - amazing (esp the day off snowmobiling in Yellowstone). Love Whistler too.

Geocentric · 19/08/2011 18:16

I've only ever been to Breckenridge, fish - easy 2hr drive from Denver and close to outlets (essential when skiing in the States!). Snow guaranteed, beautiful scenery, lovely town, laid-back jeans and hiking boots type of place. Lots of skiing around, there and in the area. And dinner at the Breckenridge Brewery - can't go wrong... Grin

(btw, Avoriaz was my first real ski holiday - I was 10 yo and we went there because they were one of the first places in Europe to have a proper kids ski school!!)

SkiBumMum, snowmobiling in Yellowstone sounds amazing!

Grin we have moved to a ski resort! so i figure it's going to start snowing in about, oooo, 8 weeks? Grin

might pop over to whistler at some point though. haven't been there since dcs born. i love it when little kids start to ski, so cute. unfortunately mine are past the cute stage and now only want to do black runs. fast. (well, two out of three. dd2 has some additional needs and is in an adaptive ski programme). this season dd1 and ds1 will outstrip my meagre ski skills by far, i suspect!

QuintessentialShadow · 19/08/2011 19:08

We are moving from the snow. We live on the side of the mountain, 2 minutes walk to the ski lifts. Going back to London in September.

One more week at our lovely self build. Most of our furniture was moved out today.

I never thougth I should be this sad about it.

Coming back for Christmas and Easter and will ski.

madwomanintheattic · 19/08/2011 19:12

oh, quint. i hadn't realised you were on the move! huge change. is this a final final move, do you think?

Geocentric · 19/08/2011 19:12

Quint - you did it? You're moving back to London?? Congratulations on getting it sorted out - I remember lots of your threads...

I miss snow. But life in the tropics is pretty nice, too (we're in Brazil, btw, madwoman).

ooo, yummy.

Skibum Whistler is great for the little DCS we went last year, drove up from Oklahoma where we were living then. Our DD turned 3 on the way up so was 3 and 3 days when she went to ski school. She and the older 3 (9,7,5 at the time) loved it. Older 3 now ski better than us and little one will soon I fear. Although now we are in the sunny UK we have to be content with skiing at our local dry slope every week for their club :(

We want to be on count down to skiing but DH can only get holiday in late October this year (i.e. leave year which goes to April) so are a little stumped other than skiing in the snow dome for a week Grin

Any October ski resort suggestions welcome, also cheap as there are 6 of us Grin

madwomanintheattic · 20/08/2011 01:18

lol wheni - we timed a ski holiday once so that we flew on ds1's third birthday Blush mine are 11,9,nearly8 now. how time flies!

nametapes · 26/08/2011 13:11

3rd jan for a week......cant wait !!!!!! Smile

deste · 23/10/2011 21:50

22 Jan for a week in La Rosiere.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 23/10/2011 21:55

20th December for an extended family Christmas holiday - not sure how much skiing we'll do on that trip.

21st January for a proper skiing trip with a chalet full of friends - can't wait!

gettingalifenow · 31/10/2011 09:57

Just booked the week before Easter in Les Arcs - just 5 months to get fit and ready......

hillyhilly · 31/10/2011 10:00

La Tania in feb! Tk max has its ski gear in now and also Costco - I bought a really good jacket in tk max for £100 (ouch) but balanced it by getting my trousers in Costco for £12.99 (Xl kids so not even any vat!)
Excited!!

weblette · 31/10/2011 10:10

Hadn't thought of Costco! H&M has its stuff in, the salos looks fine for younger ones but a bit baggy for dd.

We're off to Val Claret/Tignes on December 17th, back on Christmas Eve. Managed to sneak it in before dd turns 12 and gets a hell of a lot more expensive!

smokeybacon · 31/10/2011 10:19

Yep, on countdown too.
4 days with the girls in Les Gets at end of Jan
One week in COurchevel in Fab with DH and DCs. It will be 10 years since I was a chalet girl there so really looking forward to returning.

orienteerer · 31/10/2011 20:45

Hanging on for a pre Christmas dealGrin, or might just book flights and wait to see how snow is before selecting resort.
