Are you going to try and fit in skiing in the Christmas holidays this year?

DC break up on 16th Dec and go back on 3rd Jan. So we either go 17th-24th or 24th to 31st. Would you say the first week is a bit too early? I don't want to spend Christmas away so I think we're going to have to leave it for half term, when it costs a frigging fortune and the slopes are heaving. Sad Unless anyone knows of any tour operators doing a different changeover day this year?

There was plenty of snow the week before last year . We'd planned to go for a long weekend and got thwarted by UK airport closures Hmm Just make sure you pick a snowsure resort. Can you book it independently so you aren't restricted to the TO dates ?

2nd week could be very expensive, as prohibitive as half term. Snow can be as unsure over that Christmas period as it is over the Easter period, first 2 weeks of April 2012, which are considerably cheaper than any other holiday period.

If you go independently, rather than using a UK TO, you could save yourself a bunch and perhaps then afford half term.

i would go last week in christmas term if i could get the holiday off work (my kids are young and in 2010 all they did was 'fun activities' so i don't see a problem with them missing that particular week. i appreciate it is bad form if they are older) so yes i would go that first week to a snowsure resort.

Solution
Ski in Scotand. It's fantastic for kids and the conditions have been great the last two years. Then you can choose your dates to suit you.

Asinine - where is a good place to ski with kids in scotland? What are the accommodation options in the resort? Any advice much appreciated.

I'd go 17-24 Dec. 2009 & 2010 we went 14-18 Dec (or there abouts), low season prices & great snow (Austria). Were due to go 18-22 Dec this year but too much snow at Heathrow put paid to that!
