My dad has booked lodging in Breckenridge for Jan 2012, now DH and I just need to get our arses in gear and book plane tickets...
This will be the DC first ski trip (they will be 7 and 9); I grew up skiing with my dad but the sheer cost of a ski trip (we live in South America) means we've been waiting for the right moment to take them. My dad has been planning this since my first pregnancy, so very, very exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see their reactions to it all! Grin My Dh thinks I'm a nut for getting all psyched up so far in advance (but then I think he's a nut for getting so worked up about football Wink).

Just needed to share, I'm sitting here grinning like a lunatic!

Greygirl, thanks! Its cheaper to travel to the US than Europe from here - and Colorado has guaranteed snow!!! (and lots of lovely outlet stores... Wink)

Oh god - the outlet stores in Silverthorne - I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! Grin (Free bus from Breck to Silverthorne).

Have a fab time!

Yes, Silverthorne definitely on our to do list. Last time I went to Breckenridge we managed to go on early closing night. Hmm So many shops, so little time!!!!!! Grin

I thought the Timberland* shop was excellent and GAP and Levis. Didn't think much of the Oakleys shop - poor selection and I'm sure you'd have paid the same prices anywhere else and had a decent selection.

I was in the Timberland store (first day of my holiday to get over jetlag) and wanting to replace my hiking shoes - found a lovely pair with very grippy soles for just $50 but was watching pennies so decided against it. Blizzard back in Breck and getting off the bus from silverthorne I slipped on the ice in the middle of the road and bust my ankle quite badly - needed to be carried to the side of the road. Blush Couldn't believe I'd had such an injury whilst shopping (and would maybe not have happened if I'd been WEARING the new shoes!) - forced myself to walk all the way up the main street to keep it moving then spent 24 hours doing RICE. :( So missed a day's skiing and then had real problems forcing my poor swollen foot/ankle in to my ski boot.

Do not do this yourself on holiday! Wink

I skiied Vail sooooo badly as a result of it that I "hate" Vail, will have to go back one day and conquer it. Mind you, Vail is interesting from a people-watching POV, where else can you see "elderly" gentlemen with plastic-assisted barbies on their arms? Where else in the world would you see a Hello Kitty ski-suit? Grin

Geocentric · 14/04/2011 11:47

No, no, no my DD can NOT see a Hello Kitty ski-suit. I would be in big trouble, especially as she'll probably be wearing some assortment of second hand things in strange colours! Grin

A man walked onto the ski bus in Breck once, he had on tight jeans, high-heeled boots, a fur jacket and a cowboy hat. The entire bus just stared and when he got off (and the door closed) someone said "the bus to Vail is over there" and the entire bus-load of skiers burst into laughter. Was very funny.

Oh no, you misunderstand, it was on a GROWN WOMAN! Shock

That's funny about that outfit - but oh so true!

we had a scrap in the ski hire shop because only one of the twins got hello kitty skis! note to self - next year get to hire shop early so everyone can have hello kitty skis (although they were easier to tell apart because they were different)

but on a grown-up - that is truely awesome!
