Ski helmet query

Bit boring, I know, but would be interestd in views of Mnetters on this.
Fell backards onto my head a few weeks ago in La Ros. Not wearing a helmet, as was on a slippery pavement Grin. Anyway, despite terrific bash, was okay. DH then insisted on buying me a helmet for our trip last week to Courchevel, and instructed the DC to ensure I wore it at all times - they loved policing that Grin.
Anyway, no probs till the last day when I slipped on the slope on ice and landed with a terrific thump on the back of my head - big whack again same place, but this time with helmet. Again, a headache for a few minutes, then okay.
Qustion is - is it like a bike helmet which you are supposed to scrap if it has an impact? Helmet looks fine and intact, and I don't want to just chuck it away, but DH said it amy have been damaged invisibly, and safer to chuck it.
Has anyone else taken an impact and decided either way?

Good question. dc have had theirs for several years and I'd not really thought about it. dh has decided that we ought to get helmets this year. Can I hijack for any recommendations as they seem to vary in price hugely, from Decathlon at less than £25 to high spec £200+

Try Sportsdirect they have up to 80% of all ski wear including helmets.

Excellent question - to which I have no idea as to the answer but will watch with interest.

LIZS I bought mine in resort this year and paid approx 100 euros. I went on the advice of the store assistants (who always seem v knowledgeable and not just out for quick buck). I must have tried half a dozen or so until I found the perfect fit.

i have had the same helmet for approx 8 years. I would consider changing it if it had a crack in it, or (what i consider to be) a 'significant' impact. most of the time i don't think i have large bumps, and certainly not from skiing. if i had a large heelside slam on a snowboard i would consider it. put it like this, if i was knocked out or the headache lasted more than 15 minutes i think i would change it.
on a bike you tend to fall less often, and when you do it seems to be from higher up (although i am not sure this is true) Hmm

as for recomendations - the lidl ones are rather good, £15 is a decent price, especially for growing kids! mine is a red one, (brand not colour!) but i am uncertain if they still make thoses. any of the big brands sem ok, but i would definatley suggest removable ear flaps.
and i wear a beanie underneath so when i take the helmet off i can wear the beanie and not get 'helmet hair' so badly (vain emoticon)

if that was true then most of the helmets that are hired out would be useless/dangerous. No-one ever asks if you've bashed it when you return it, so they wouldn't know. I think it would be fine.

thanks!!!

It must be fine. Most people skiing bash their head quite regularly (I live next to the slopes) and they dont run and buy a new helmet each time!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 14/03/2011 19:05

oooh - even more thanks! Grin

I bought a NoFear one for me yesterday in Sports Direct with a big reduction in the sale and I paid £10... its was about £59.99. . . .made my day !!! Smile
If i had bought it in France in the Alps i would have paid around 99 Euros i guess.

Skifit · 15/03/2011 10:52

QuintessentialShadows . .you live next to the slopes. . oh my gosh, I am so jealous, how lucky......but, where ??
Can we all come and visit ??
We are going to Megeve, France (as always) at the end of the month,,,cant wait.

QuintessentialShadows · 16/03/2011 11:06

north of norway.

To be honest, it is not grand at all. It is just a local ski center with 3 slopes, one (rather steep) nursery slope, and 2 runs from the top of the mountain.

Skifit · 16/03/2011 14:55

That nice to be in Norway. Are you enjoying it ??
Are you working there, or is your other half working there?

Do you all ski there?
