Warm toes!

DD2(13)gets seriously cold in her ski/snowboard boots. We've tried those little packs (Hot Coal?) which warm up but they tend to turn into an uncomfortable, hot lump which burns heats only one tiny part of her foot. Can anyone recommend some heated insoles? She's a keen skier and snowboarder but is already psyching herself up for an uncomfortable, painful, cold holiday - and I'd be quite pleased if we didn't have the usual whingeing, whining and complaining. I have, of course, Googled, but "personal" recommendations are usually the best, aren't they?

When I was getting my new boots fitted this year, a father came in with his daughter complaining about cold feet. They carefully checked that the boots fitted correctly, which they did. Their suggestion was more layers on the body - if the body is really warm then it pumps blood out to fingers and toes, which makes sense. They also said they never recommended heated liners etc, unless the boots were custom fit, since once the fit is right then they shouldn't be cold.

Since at 13 her feet are probably still growing, you wouldn't want the custom fit expense, but you could buy her more layers for the body and really good quality socks - I have some called hot chilli I think. I have given up with the cheap tchibo socks even for the children and now buy them expensive ones and just pass over the credit card and blank out on the price!

Thanks, Jicky. They are SO expensive, decent socks, aren't they? Unfortunately, we've already tried the expensive socks route so I was hoping for some other miracle answer, but thanks for your reply anyway.

I have custom fit insoles but the guy in the shop took the wires out of the insoles provided and fitted them into mine. They were about £100 but worth every penny!

Hi TheReturn, just a couple of ideas before you resort to the boot heaters...one is silk socks, very thin socks worn under the normal socks, I had to get these for my son last year, they did the trick. You can get them in Decathlon. Also Superfeet hot pink insoles perhaps, a bit pricier but not as much as the heaters.
