Server error, duplicate threads

Spudlet · 26/04/2022 09:32

I’ve just posted the same thread four times because every time I hit ‘post’ I got a server error… could someone please get rid of the dupes (I’ve reported them) and hit the server with a hammer?

Same thing just happened posting this, and doubtless will when I’m trying to post this reply…!

I've just had the same thing myself - had to report 8 duplicate posts that the site had claimed had failed to upload!

NaiceHamAndHugs · 26/04/2022 09:43

Yep. I’ve replied many times to one thread. What a sack of shit this is!

NaiceHamAndHugs · 26/04/2022 09:44

Looks like this. But it’s a lie.

Coriandersucks · 26/04/2022 09:44

Same here - nervous of posting anything now in case if taking over someone’s thread!

milkyaqua · 26/04/2022 09:49

Hard to believe, but the "upgrade" is actually getting worse...

milkyaqua · 26/04/2022 09:50

That fecking error 500 message blaring up when you post, so you think you've not posted. Jesus.

toastfiend · 26/04/2022 09:54

Yep, just had the same thing.

I cannot understand why MN are persisting with this new site when it patently does not work. If this is deemed to be what success looks like after the abortive attempt at launching it a few weeks prior when it was deemed not to be up to standard, then I honestly hate to imagine what it was like before.

I agree. Surely it's got to the point where they need to roll back to the old site and take the time to fix these problems. Confused Duplicate posts, server errors, and posters not actually being able to post aren't bugs, they're huge issues that make the site unusable.

Eggshelly · 26/04/2022 10:51

Ahh thought something was odd there's like 4 x variations of the same post but now I see they are the same post

MurmuratingStarling · 26/04/2022 10:54

Yep, just been on AIBU, and some threads have been posted/duplicated 4 or 5 times!!! All the duplicates have responses on too. What a clusterfukk!

SueMumsnet · 26/04/2022 10:55

Hi all - thanks for reporting - we are on this now. Sorry for the pain it's causing.

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 26/04/2022 10:55

Same here!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 26/04/2022 10:58

I was just coming to start a thread about this. It's making some quite serious threads unreadable. duplicate posts scattered through the thread.

This is getting ridiculous. This update has caused havoc.

It's OK! Anything new has glitches! Flowers

BusterGonad · 26/04/2022 11:10

I can very rarely post

BusterGonad · 26/04/2022 11:11

It picks and choices itself if it wants to post my message or not. Today it didn't allow me to post about 4 times. But at least I no longer need to add a quote to do so. 😊

Thank you for the Flowers - much needed and much appreciated 😁

In all fairness though, building something as complex as this forum would have been a massive job, and even with the best testing, you still don't know how something will work until you launch it. Thing of all the different ways that users will be accessing the site - on mobiles of all makes and ages, on brand new or very old operating systems, on desktop machines running different software which might not have updated for ages, on tablets, via an app, from all over the world, on different browsers - it's huge! And it's not static content, it's having to update constantly as people post on literally hundreds of threads at a time. Glitches are inevitable, no matter how what you do, because you just can't test for every eventuality. We'll get there!

That's as may be, but a lot of these issues would have been picked up and mitigated against if testing had been conducted in a professional manner, rather than just "hey everyone, come and have a try of our new forum if you've got 5 mins" with no accurate means for testers to report issues as and when they came up. It's simply not adequate.

The first abortive attempt to launch this site should also have given pause for thought, and it's clear that the site still, frankly, isn't ready for public use. Not only that, but the communication from @MNHQ has been hopeless. They barely acknowledge complaints (but are quick to thank people defending them) and, so far, I've seen no discernible improvements to the majority of the issues people have flagged, many of which are quite significant to the accessibility and usability of the site and no timeline for fixes or improvements. I think people are understandably very frustrated.
