baby names threads

Is there a way to stop a thread being automatically created when someone adds a name to the "baby name finder"?

At the moment two things are happening, it is crowding the baby name threads a bit and some people see the name they have given to their child criticised very strongly when they have not actually asked for it IYSWIM?

And it's giving the impression that they created the thread themselves -- so they add (say) Ethelburga to the BNF and a thread is automatically created in their name saying "What do you think of Ethelburga as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder". Then people pile on giving full and frank opinions of the name, and the person who added it to the BNF gets in a huff, and other posters say "Well, you did ask", and the "OP" says no, she didn't, actually, and it all gets very fraught and confusing until someone works out that Tech is out to cause dissension in the ranks this is a new undocumented feature.

It's a bit crap, really.

See here, for example.

Thanks Professor, your version is more to the point than mine!

I think mine was just rantier. But I'm fine labelling that as "more to the point"

Partially deranting, I don't think it is being created entirely automatically. I can see that at the top of each listing there's a "Start new discussion on [name]" link, and it may be that people are themselves clicking on that after creating the name, but even so I think it's causing issues -- someone who comes to MN via the BNF (perhaps through a Google link) won't know what MN Talk is like, and having their first introduction to it be posting a "Hey, come and insult my child's name!" thread seems potentially misguided.

I definitely caused issue on the Crissy one> I wonder if maybe the "Start new discussion on name" could have been confused with "post your name one baby finder" type of thing?
