Edit function on posts?

I don't know if this has been suggested or tried before but is it possible to add an edit button to each post so that the post creator (and only the post creator or tech) can edit them for spelling, adding more texts, adjusting smileys etc??

Hate to pour cold water on this, but the site can be contentious enough without people being able to edit their posts to take inflammatory things out (or put them in!).

Agree with hm. If you need to make a correction, make another post.

We've thought about this and decided against. It would be just too easy to abuse...
