I have previously enjoyed being able to look at mumsnet from my mobile phone anytime anyplace using my mobile phone, admittedly and oldish one (sony-ericsson k800i).

Then I sign up for a 1 month web package with vodaphone (payt) and I can initially access all usual websites I would use from my phone (ebay/fb/mumsnet/amazon/etc.), for about the first 10 days.

Just before the weekend (fri 4th June) all of a sudden - it won't let me look at mumsnet pages - I can see any other website (so can't have downloaded too many KB's for web pack limit).... have mumsnet changed something about the way their website is viewed?
Is anyone else having the same issue?
Has my phone got a virus?

Where will the fault lie?
Phone settings?
Vodaphone web pack?
Mumsnet's server?

The page that comes up just says; "No response from web server" when I do try to view mumsnet.

It's just more convenient to view from my mobile than to have to get the laptop out.

I can't get it on my new blackberry either. It says the file is too large

Multimummy · 08/06/2010 20:30

hmmm I just don't understand why it was working - and now it's not.

What is all this "Error - No reponse from web server" rubbish about.

If I ask the vodafone homepage to search for mumsnet - it brings up links - but then if I click on the link - I get the same message!

Is this a cruel act from the "web gods" to force me into doing more housework I wonder?

Hi Multi,
We haven't changed our policies or done anything that would break the site via Vodafone (or anyone else).

We do have a very big video on the homepage at the moment - I wonder if that is causing strife? If you try going to active convos or to talk directly does that work?

tomtech · 09/06/2010 10:29

That is, try going here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk?call=ActiveConversations

and see if that one works ok.

(sorry don't have my clear-thinking head on this morning).

Tom

Tootired- Just thought i would let you know how I view Mumsnet on my Blackberry:

I downloaded opera for the blackberry and view it via that. I type mumsnet in the gooolge search facility in Opera, when the results come up I click on 'popular topics' or 'active convos' and go from there.

The Opera thingy really has helped, posting from it can be a bit tempramental though!!

Good luck!!

still not able to view mumsnet from my mobile - can see any other website though - just not mumsnet in particular. Still getting the "Error - no response from server" message.

Any idea's techy's?

I found this glimmer of information on the web.

No Response from Web Server

No Response from Web server occurs when the web server's host computer is found, and a connection is established to the default port. The request is sent to the web server, but it does not respond within a predertermined set time. This may indicate a problem with your web server software or backend systems or possibly an overloaded web server machine.

I have checked my phone's settings - and they are working for all other websites.

Is the musnet server overloaded then?

Hurrah! It's working today. (Typed from my sad little mobile).
Thank you whoever it was that fixed it. X

LOL - and today I got a reply from vodafone (I also checked with them incase they'd accidentally "barred" me from viewing mumsnet.com).

"On your phone there is a internet restriction so that's the reason you are unable to view www.mumsnet.com & other website.

to remove this restriction faster than ever to fix, you can now remove Content Control yourself online."

Great - so now vodafone apparently think mumsnet is an "adult" website!

Thankfully their reason is entirely inaccurate - and the solution not necessary - as whatever the glitch was must've been web based and not to do with the mobile company.

I can still see mumsnet on my phone - but today - the page is not resizing well - and taking ages to load.
