why no 'highly personal' board?

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2010 00:10

im thinking this would be a good idea - all those friday night 'naughty'threads, all those threads that encourage oversharing - they could all get put on a highly personal board so posters know exactly what they are letting themselves in for before clicking.

what about it HQ?

ShowOfHands has been campaigning for this for eons, and it's a flat No. Would attract too many Wanking Trolls, apparently...

Valpollicella · 02/06/2010 00:21

Sounds like a fab idea for OP's... But what if threads descend into 'oversharing'...as they often do, as per RL conversations ?

Like a progression of the thread? Or would we have to rigidly stick to the OP without hesitation, deviation or repetition etc...?

toccatanfudge · 02/06/2010 00:23

Val I have no idea what you're talking about..........of course my dirty thread (about rubbish bins I hasten to add ) didn't start to veer towards talking dirty on the phone at all did it

GypsyMoth · 02/06/2010 00:25

i have just 'overshared' on a thread...i really shouldn't!

toccatanfudge · 02/06/2010 00:26

or do you mean like on Sunday morning when I dropped ny DS's into Sunday school which my BF and DH were running before I headed off up to church to play the organ

conversation went something like this

Me: "Oh BTW I fixed my washing machine, now I just need to find a man that can climb up a ladder and lean over the drop down the stairs to change the lightbulbs" (in earshot of her DH who I know will come round and help me out when he's got 5 minutes"

Her: "Oh I think I know a man that might be able to help, so long as you don't need any help with your plumbing again" (he sorted the plumbing for my dishwasher a few weeks back)

ME: "oh no that's ok, I managed to sort out my plumbing myself this time round so I don't need a man for that"

Her: "really ToC!!!"

ME: "well a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do and sometimes you have to do self service"

....................

pmsl

No, we didn't start a thread about bins. It didn't descend into smut and advice (in equal measures!)

Ah, course we did.

Tis MN

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/06/2010 00:29

I think it's a great idea as long as we can have a prude thread as well.
Keep all the smut in one place.

Valpollicella · 02/06/2010 00:30

Utter a 'Tsk' at the same time Bitter. Your place as prude will be mared by it

Valpollicella · 02/06/2010 00:34

Niiice

Can just imagine you with a pinny, and headscarf, and hoiking your bosom

Love dissaproval when it's done properly

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/06/2010 00:43

Oh, I can definitely disapprove in an appropriate manner.

Bring on Prudesnet.com

can't wait until tomorrow.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/06/2010 00:49

I probably should go to bed.

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2010 00:50

ahhhh but you could deter troll wanking types by giving it a password that you could request via email....clever eh? would stop trolls and allow us with filthy minds personal questions to ask without feeling the world was watching us...

and if i had a bosom to hoik i would.

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/06/2010 00:51

No bosoms for hoikage here either, vicar.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/06/2010 00:52

Now that's not a post you would see on prudesnet!

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2010 00:55

what about though - good idea? maybe HQ could give a password and then those tawdry daily mail headlines about the friday night bumsex threads would disappear. maybe.

OP posts:
ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2010 00:58

...and it doesnt just have to be about S - E - X....anything and everything personal. could be health worries, could be family problems, things you dont want aired on the main boards.

i really think it would be a good idea. what about it HQ?

OP posts:
BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 02/06/2010 01:01

I do think it's a good idea, but SOH has campaigned for similar and no joy.

What's to stop Trolls e-mailing for the password?

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/06/2010 01:07

nothing, but id not just dish the password out to anyone who emails - established posters only, though realise that could be difficult with namechangers etc....hq must know whose email is whose?

OP posts:
OliviaMumsnet · 02/06/2010 15:11

Portia's right - we're going to say NO to this one
sorry

Some boards have a private section - only accessable to those people who have posted X number of times, or for however many months. What about considering that?
