Threads and lurking

You know when people say "try posting on the Education board" or "try posting on Chat" ..?

Never makes sense to me, 'cos I always look on Active Convos first. Then I usually stray into AIBU, or Education-type stuff. Are there really people who just look on one or two threads?

I always look at unanswered and try to impart my wisdom (even if I know nothing) I always feel a bit sorry for people who don't have any replies!

the more popular topics will get seen and answered first - so if like me you click active convos first then you can miss quite a bit.

but then if i looked at every post in every topic i really would never get off MN!

People hide certain topics, or whole boards, so that those don't show up in their Active Convos.

So, e.g., if someone posts a query about discrimination in Primary Education, I won't see it because I have that topic hidden (it not concerning me, and all). But if they post the same thing in Legal Matters that will show up in my Actives and I might be able to help.
