Did I see, somewhere in the middle of the FB/Twitter debate, Justine referencing giving private threads/groups a go on MN? How would that work then? Struggling to understand after a bad nights sleep...

oh yes she did mention that didn't she

Tee2072 · 02/05/2010 07:40

Oh god I hope not. There's enough 'I've been here ages and therefore I am better than you' on these boards without adding 'I get to go to X thread and you don't so I'm better than you.'

Permanence of the written word is a bit actually. I can look at stuff I wrote in 2000 on MN - I was a different person then, and and was just chatting!

I wouldve forgotten it long ago if it wasnt recorded for posterity on mn, lol.

TheBossofMe · 02/05/2010 08:34

Leningrad - ah, I see, I thought it meant sort of invite only areas or threads. And couldn't really see how that would work because surely the threads would just die eventually if new people didn't keep finding them.

it would just be validating 'moldies'..

TheBossofMe · 02/05/2010 08:52

I've probably got completely the wrong end of the stick - anyone up and about at MNHQ as yet?

OP posts:
MamaG · 02/05/2010 09:41

Nah they'll all be having breakfast in bed, reading hte papers and counting their loot

TheJollyPirate · 02/05/2010 09:43

MamaG

Forgot you were all enjoying a bank holiday weekend in the UK - looks like MNHQ is off and making the most of the break

Will bump on Tuesday and see if anyone can elaborate.

OliviaMumsnet · 03/05/2010 10:55

Hello
I'm here, I'm here. and it's a BANK HOLIDAY and everything.
But have no technical knowledge at all on how the private groups will work
I'll get someone from the office to look at this tomorrow though.

Aitch · 03/05/2010 10:59

this has been mooted for yonks, well pre-moldies. it's just mn competing with the fb groups etc isn't it, perfectly sensible if you ask me. btw fb 'validated' moldies long before moldies even existed, surely?

TheBossofMe · 03/05/2010 13:39

Olivia - I think even MNHQ is allowed a bank holiday!

lots of forums I have seen have private areas but really they are only restricted to anyone who has posted, say, less than 200 times. I can't see how Mumsnet could do it any differently.

MrsMargate · 04/05/2010 08:47

Aitch is right.

And there's always msn.
