Links not working?

NumptyMum · 06/04/2010 12:01

Every time I click on a link in a thread I'm getting '404 not found' (all recent threads).

I'm using Firefox browser, and notice in the link title crops up and I'm guessing it shouldn't, eg:
www.blackpitts.co.uk/plants%3Cwbr%3E/plants.html
(for some reason when I cut and paste this, the < symbol turns into %3C and the > becomes %3E)

I've not had a problem with links at all before so has something changed?

Thanks!

Not working in IE v 8.0 either.

uglymugly · 06/04/2010 13:42

The < wbr > is cropping up randomly elsewhere, too, and may be what's causing problems with unexpected bold and such like.

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/04/2010 13:43

Eek! Is anyone else having this problem?

homepage

just tested this link and it's working ok for me in firefox.

thanks

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/04/2010 13:44

That's working for me in firefox

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 06/04/2010 13:45

That link is working for me, but all my links are coming up as 'forbidden'

uglymugly · 06/04/2010 13:46

Geraldine, If you check the links in BertieBotts' posts on: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/942063-Why-has-this-thread-gone-bold you'll see the problem in the subsequent URL.

ShadeofViolet · 06/04/2010 13:47

Links are not working for me either.

thisisyesterday · 06/04/2010 13:47

yes, but not on everything

eg, i posted a link to ebay which i think works, and one to google as a test, which also works

but on some links there is a rogue being inserted into it which is making it not work

i am using firefox on ubuntu

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/04/2010 13:48

The one uglymugly has done takes me to the talk page, not where it is meant to go.

thisisyesterday · 06/04/2010 13:48

let's see if this works...i noticed the problem on this thread

NoahAndTheWhale · 06/04/2010 13:48

There was an in the middle of site stuff.

thisisyesterday · 06/04/2010 13:50

hmm my one has had the inserted, but it DOES work kind of. it takes you to the chat topic page rather than the thread though lol

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/04/2010 13:52

uglymugly, thanks. Tech is busy till 3pm then promises to sort it all out

msrisotto · 06/04/2010 13:52

Your link works fine for me but links on other threads haven't worked for me today.

BunnyLebowski · 06/04/2010 13:59

I'm using Google Chrome and all links are broken for me.

Fix please!

msrisotto · 06/04/2010 14:04

Internet explorer here btw

WebDude · 06/04/2010 14:26

Geraldine - it might depend on the length of the link.

I put an item on the "In the News" section about the debate (or not!) on the "Digital Economy Bill" and every link there is cut up with < wbr > entries. One has two of them inserted.

Major pain, unless people can spot the wrong bit and delete it. Links are to articles on BBC site, Guardian, and so on, and none work.

See
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/942103-Digital-Economy-Bill

(at least that way the link can be copied and pasted and should work OK)

WebDude · 06/04/2010 14:29

but doesn't as the around In the news makes it inthe_news with an underline...

Ah well, time for some breakfast !

TomTech · 06/04/2010 15:15

Just reverted the change I made this morning. All should be well now. Sorry about that .

Webdude - yup, right you are. If the link was under 40 chars it would have been ok, but most aren't.

thisisyesterday · 06/04/2010 17:06

was the change you made inserting into all links?

what possessed you man??

we need a tongue pokey out emoticon!!!
