"message deleted"

What does this mean when it suddenly appears on all of one poster's posts?

Have they de-regged?

Um, that they have asked for their posts to be deleted and MNHQ have agreed. I had to do it once, MNHQ don't agree do this easily so there must be a good reason...

AFAIK de-regging doesn't mean all posts are deleted, there would be at lot more gappy threads if it did.

Probably best not to inquire further.

IMoveTheStars · 31/03/2010 11:53

not de-reg'd, just that the message has been deleted (usually reported by the poster or someone else, can be any number of reasons why a post might be deleted)

AMumInScotland · 31/03/2010 12:00

If it's all the posts for that poster, it is likely that they have asked MNHQ to remove them all because of a difficult situation in RL and they have put too much personal details in too many threads to go through them one at a time.

WhoIsAsking · 31/03/2010 12:01

hmm. OK then. I am a nosy curious person and noticed a sudden flurry of "message deleted" rather than "deleted at posters request" or "deleted by mumsnet"

Never mind.

What reasons do MNHQ have for deleting a message themselves?

As all manner of swearwords seem to be allowed, and product names (which are often banned on BBC boards)

just wondering

WhoIsAsking · 31/03/2010 12:17

MMM - as someone else said, MNHQ will delete stuff that is attacking another poster (if someone reports it) so, for example, if I told you to EFF OFF and you reported the post, MNHQ would delete.

They also delete stuff that is horribly racist or violent etc. Basically, I think, if a post is reported, MNHQ will have a look and make a judgement call. That's why swearing is not deleted, just for being swearing IYKWIM?

I noticed a load of 'message deleted' posts on Reality's hilarious and light-hearted rifle loading thread, and was similarly nosy intrigued. Can't remember there being anything especially wild in any of them.

AMumInScotland · 31/03/2010 12:24

If someone reports a post, MNHQ will look at it - they will usually only delete it if it's a personal attack (on another poster, not just their opinion IYSWIM), obscenity (not just "ordinary" swearing), or if it potentially breaks the law - libel, incitement to racial hatred, that kind of thing.

They'll also get rid of blatant adverts, unless it's a paid-for thread.

MathsMadMummy · 31/03/2010 12:28

I see, thanks. So frustrating when I get to a thread too late and there's deleted messages

WhoIsAsking · 31/03/2010 15:34

All is revealed

I like their 'spelling' emoticon. Pedants corner would love it.
